JUS2QWK'S Official Build Thread

I've had a few threads for this truck but nothing to show the entire build, what’s happening now and what the plans are. So I'll start at the beginning I got the truck for my 13 birthday and was intended to be a my daily driver for school. To make a long story short my truck got skipped in line, in our shop with some other restorations so when I got my license not truck. I drove a junky Plymouth laser through most of high school. The truck took a little longer than expected but it was worth the wait. It turned out a lot nicer then I we expected. Now to the pictures!

The original truck. Basically nothing was used other than the frame and grille. Straight 6 with a 3 on the tree

For some reason I can’t seem to find the very first part of the build. So I’ll start with this, after most if the metal work had been completed. Cab corners, rockers, cab supports, and I small section of floor. The hood and fenders and aftermarket. The frame was sandblasted and painted.

Trying to get an idea of how I wanted my flames to look.

The end caps for the bed rail I made.

Re: JUS2QWK'S Official Build Thread

now the fun Part! The original engine was a thrown together with what we had 408 small block. stock crank, 350 5.7 rods, new cast pistons, cast heads, edelbrock torker 2 intake, decent sized cam and a Holley 750... all junk we had laying around for the most part. I think we had 1200 bucks in the complete engine. I'm thinking it had around 400hp and a ton of torque. the original trans was a muncie 4 speed with 373 12bolt rear.

Re: JUS2QWK'S Official Build Thread

Now the Interior
I got a seat from a late 70s early 80s c10 and had it recovered, new carpet, door panels, dash pad and dash bezel were installed. I also put in a speaker box behind the seat with a 10 inch sub and 6x9 speakers I also put in kick panels with speakers and a Sony head unit. all the speakers were also Sony. sound deadening material was put throughout the entire cab

Re: JUS2QWK'S Official Build Thread

Bed Final assembly
we sprayed in bed liner the painted the bed sides which turned out nice considering how bad of shape the bed was in.

The inside of the fenders were also covered in bed liner as well as the bed sides

Where we were on a budget we just went to lowed and bought some pine planks and stained them. Not Ideal but the money was starting to run low

The Finished Product
Nothing felt better than all that hard work finally finished and I got to take the first drive in the Fall of 2006. The truck turned out WAY better than I could of imagined and for a 18 year old senior in high school I definitely had the coolest ride in the parking lot

Re: JUS2QWK'S Official Build Thread

well for the next couple of years when I went to college close to home I still go to drive it some. I went to some cruise in's, parades, Dyno days, and basically just had a lot of fun with it.

Re: JUS2QWK'S Official Build Thread

Fast forward to 2011. I just had graduated college got a grown man job and I finally had time to start enjoying the truck again. Until this happened. I was messing around with the timing and changing a few things and I think it leaned WAYYY out.

Re: JUS2QWK'S Official Build Thread

Now I have to build a motor which is fine. I was ready for a little more power. so this is what we did. another small block 400 high nickle block, eagle rods 6 inch rods, srp forged pistons, aluminum heads, tall air gap intake, bullet custom ground solid lift cam, MSD digital 6al box and a ProForm 750 carb. Machine work was done by Buck Racing Engines and a drag racer buddy who used to build engines put it together. this set us is supposed to be good for a little over 500 hp. I forgot to mention that I had put a Richmond 6 speed in it a few years back

Re: JUS2QWK'S Official Build Thread

Since I now had a engine that would rev to almost 7k I thought it would be good to have a tachometer. this is one mod Im quite proud of. New vintage 10k tach in the factory location

So new engine in and life is good. More cruise in’s, shows, Drag strip, and even took it on the 3 hour trip to the rod run in rod run pigeon forge

Re: JUS2QWK'S Official Build Thread

Everything had been great with the new engine but then the one thing I didn't replace failed... and let me tell you it was like a bomb went off under my hood. The harmonic balancer decided it didn't want to in one piece anymore. This was during the fall of last year

Re: JUS2QWK'S Official Build Thread

Okay so now we are almost up to speed. Like I said the balancer broke in the fall of 2012 and I replaced everything on the engine that it destroyed and got it running again but at that point it made me sick to even look at the thing so I parked it in the corner and left it. until about mid way through the summer I decided to start piddling with it here and there and did a few thing but the more I looked the more stuff I noticed needed to be fixed so about 2 months ago I finally decided to buckle down and get it done.

I had a very nice truck before but if I'm going through all this work it would kill me the have the exact same thing as before. Not only that but I want to do some of the things that I didn't have the money or knowledge back then to do. So here are the most recent updates.

New hood

This was by far one of the worst fitting hoods I've seen but nothing the welder and hammer couldn't handle

The Bed came of for a little rust repair, body work, new wood, fleet side tubs and so I could put the c notch in.

Re: JUS2QWK'S Official Build Thread

lots of body work has been done and everything from the cab up is almost ready to paint but there was a lot to do, to get everything lined up where I was satisfied.

like cutting the fenders and rockers

Re: JUS2QWK'S Official Build Thread

Iva also done a lot of small things like adding a new cpp deluxe trac bar, shock relocation kit, new springs for the rear to drop it another 2 inches and cleaning the frame and repainting it. I also am cleaning up the engine bay a bit with with new plug wires routed under the headers, new valve covers and a lot of odds and ends.

new deluxe trac bar with the springs install and shock relocation kit installed

I also made new 3 inch tail pipes because I didn't really care for the way it sounded or looked with the 2.5 tail pipes

engine bay with new valve covers, air cleaner, breather, dip stick and plug wires rerouted

and this is how it sets at the moment

I currently don't have a fan shroud but I don't think I will need one with my new electric fan so I changed these up to make the look a little better.

I think they turned out nice and the new stainless hardware looks good too

Re: JUS2QWK'S Official Build Thread

Well all that took a while! haha but now everyone is up to date.
I want to take this truck to the next level so the plans are to
-paint it basically the same minus the flames
-new wheels maybe 18x8 up front and 20x12 out back
-narrow rear end or maybe jump to a ford 9inch
-black walnut bed
-fleet side wheel tubs
-recover seat/ maybe even change the entire interior

I’ll try to do my best to keep this thread updated
