Tourch time..

I'm a good hand at using a torch but this is the first time i need to use one for removing the rear leaf springs on my truck, the bolts are froze solid in the sleeves and cant bang them out even tho i got the nuts removed. I know the rubber is going to catch fire if i torch the springs, The bed is on the truck too.

Not sure how bad the flames will get???

Any advice appreciated.

Have a fire extinguisher within arms reach
I learned the value of fire extinguishers a year ago when we had a small bon fire start to get out of hand. the extinguisher brought it back in hand very quickly. I now have an extinguisher under the kitchen sink, one in my truck, and 4 in my garage/woodworking shop. I have also given away 5 to friends over the last month... I had the good fortune to be given several that were going to be due for hydro at work, and rather then have them re upped, they decided to get rid of them... I happily removed them from the building and put them in my trunk... they were all extras from the old shop, they got brought along when we moved the shop. All have good pressure and should be good for years in a residential setting.

i have a couple of the water type ones that you can refill and put compresed air in to recharge very handy around the garage

I did mine, the rubber burns quick and black. I had a second person watching and standing by with an extinguisher and some water. It works good, as long as you don't trash the springs.

If you can roll truck outside. Use a piece of sheet metal as a heat shield under floor. Try to be quick and deliberate with tourch. Use water or compressed air to put flame out when done cutting, this will minimise heat/flame under floor. Use proper safty equipment ie safty glasses, gloves. You should not need extinguisher but have one at arms reach

Thanks Guys, i should have poisted a pic.... i am in the driveway, installing a suspension lift, The front is done but still working on the rear and going to buy a torch kit tomorrow morning, I have to cut the springs and possibly the stock shackles, I already have ORD replacement shackles and new springs. I just don't see any way around it, I tried my Sawzall and couldn't faze the bolts even with new blades, worked fine on the front so don't ask me why the difference, i was able to cut thru the U bolts just fine. i even tried my cutoff wheel on my 4" grinder but it won't reach thru ether.

I'll be sure to drag the hose over, and no worries, the Gas tank has yet to be used, not even a drop of gas yet.

I thought you were British for a second

Ive seen those torched out before and the flame up was minimal. Just be safe and have a small extinguisher at the ready.
