Manifold Leak
I have an Edelbrock 2101 aluminum manifold on a 350 engine. There is a coolant leak in the port on the driver's side front. It has a 3/8" NPT thread. I don't use that port and need to cap it off but it leaks at the pipe plug. I have tried sealing compound, but I think that the thread is not in the greatest shape. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem and knew of a fix. Any advice would be appreciated.

I have seen J-B Weld used as a sealant in extreme emergency situations.
OK I did it ONCE on my mom's Olds....but JUST ONCE. It lasted over 3 years until someone stole the car. The olny reason that it was done was 260 Olds parts were pricey at the time. It did work.

I thought about that but, I really don't like the idea. McMaster Carr sells a "test pipe plug" which fits into a pipe end and then expands with a neoprene seal. I would be unhappy to replace the manifold because of one partially stripped thread, but doubt my ability to drill out the hole and tap it for a larger plug.

I would drain a little coolest out, clean the threads of the plug & manifold very well with some lacquer thinner or alcohol. Install the plug with some silicon gasket maker and let set for at least 24 hours before refilling. A local machine shop could drill and tap that out to 1/2" in no time, probably for less than $50.

Thanks for the replies. I will try the RTV gasket maker. Maybe the answer is to have steel thread inserts put in. It's difficult to keep the distributor in place because I don't want to strip the threads where the clamp hold down goes.

try the Indian Head gasket sealer from permatex on the threads, it is in a little brown bottle, i use that stuff for everything, including steam flanges on naval ships,
