Small block to big block AC question?
Hi, I am thinking of buying a big block for my truck, found a complete low miles GM Goodwrench 454 replacement engine for a fair price. It has all the brackets and hardware except the AC. My 71 C10 has a 350 with AC and I want to keep the AC as it works perfectly.
My question is, can I use any of the small block brackets or pulleys on the big block? I know I need the BB AC brackets, but hoping I can use the lower engine pulley, water pump pulley and maybe the altenator + brackets? Thanks

Re: Small block to big block AC question?
Hey there. I'm going the other way. I'd be willing to swap brackets.
I have a 402 BB with factory air and going to a 350HP 350 crate motor. The Air brackets have been the most aggravating part of the whole project. Mine is coming out mid Nov. Let me know. Can you shoot me a picture of your bracket? Long or short water pump? TinTop |

The brackets in mine are factory, all I did was take everything, sand it down and paint it. I'm guessing the trade would be for everything..all pulleys, complete AC brackets, complete Power steering brackets (no pump) and complete alt brackets (no alt). Mine is the short waterpump as well. All I have is one picture of the complete engine bay at the moment, I can take some more once I get back to the garage.

Re: Small block to big block AC question?
Thanks, it is a clean truck for sure. Still needs a few things and the paint is 25 years old

Sounds good. Mine will be done, however All the parts will be available. Mine is a good running 402, but the valve seats are burnt. The truck does about 4MPG but has high oil pressure and no smoke at all.
I think I'll craiglist the motor. |

Re: Small block to big block AC question?
I'm sure shipping would cost a small fortune, but what are you looking to get for the 402?

I was hoping for 500. Where are you? I have a shipping crate for the motor that came with my crate motor.

It sound like a done deal to me. I'll keep you posed. I would ship it CEVA Freight delivered to your dock. It has 107000 on the motor.

Re: Small block to big block AC question?
Cool, let me know the shipping costs. I can either mail a check or send paypal.
Will it also have the exhaust manifolds? If you could take a picture of what you'd be sending, that would be awesome

Re: Small block to big block AC question?
It will have a flexplate, exhaust manifolds , Carb, oil press switch, all heating fittings, new water pump. motor mounts, and power steering pump and all the pullys. It will be driven to the shop and the motor swap will happen.
It will go in the crate, and come to you. I'll keep the Alt and Starter. Tin Top |

Re: Small block to big block AC question?
Cool..and the AC and alt brackets?
I'm not sure the stock small block AC brackets will work with your valve covers though? Here's a picture I just took showing the brackets..
