Rear airbag instal-some quick questions
Guys, I'm about to do the rear airbag install this week. My airbags look like this, and are 7" tall without air. I'm not sure of the brand:
I did receive top and bottom brackets for the airbags, and they are each 1.5" tall. Am I okay to install them without like this thread shows? http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=129463 The other thing I was a little worried about is driveshaft clearance on the crossmember. Is this an issue for a standard airbag drop, or does it have to be laying frame for that to be a problem?

I just mounted mine without the cups up top. The hole for the air fitting was a pain to do, I used a step bit and a dremel cause I ended up with almost a 1" hole. I think a one piece driveline will hit. I have a extreme drop cross member from ece so no problems. Personally I would continuing to mount bags like this on these trucks. If your bagging your truck your obviously going for low so I would ditch the cups

You can mount the bag directly to the frame, as mentioned above. The cup, depending on how tall, will not effect the overall drop of the truck. It does however, make routing the airline easier, and eliminate the need to drill the large hole. Both ways work well, and are a good option. Just all depends on which you prefer.
Your first limiting factor, is the rear end hitting the bottom of the bed floor, and rear end hits the frame (no notch). This will happen before the bag collapses all the way down. This is how you can run a small cup, and still not effect the overall drop. If the cup is too tall, you can cut it down accordingly. If you have a c-notch, then I would not use the cups either, to maximize drop. |

Thanks for the help guys.
I didn't buy from here, but as far as I can tell, these are the same bags: http://www.airbagit.com/Air-Springs-...p/baga-26a.htm The brackets are actually like a platform, not a cup, which is the reason I really hoped I didn't have to use them. I figured it'd make the ride height higher, and the ride quality would suffer from having to air the bag out to lower it like I want. I do have the frame c notched already. I'll just have to find the happy point to where the bed isn't hitting the rear end's top. I haven't found too many threads on driveshaft interference, so I might just see where I'm at after I get the bags installed.
