1983 GMC Option Codes

Is there a place I can find option codes for a 1983 GMC? My 1983 Sierra Classic 2500 crew cab is now on its way to me and I'm trying to figure out exactly what I'm getting.

I have some paperwork from the original dealership (General GMC in Phoenix) that show its option codes. I have some questions. What I know is

G01010.....R. AXLE STANDARD
MX1020.....3-SPD AUTO TRAN
ZY4020.....DLX2 TONE PAINT
21L050.....21 BLUE 29 BLUE

Now my questions.
1) Is this rear axle a 3.73? Elsewhere I have paperwork with a hand-written "3.73". This truck has the 5.7L engine.
2) Is this the TH350 or TH400 transmission?
3) The truck is now a single color (or at least appears to be so). What would this 2 tone paint scheme look like?
4) What blues are these (example pics would be great).

Can't wait for this thing to get here.

Only down side is now I have to sell my 72 C10 Cheyenne Super.

Oh yeah, !

Re: 1983 GMC Option Codes

Here is the generic info packet from the GM Heritage Center archives for an '83 Chevy pickup. It will be the same as for a GMC (a GMC is simply a Chevy with RPO Z88 nameplate conversion).

This will give you an overview of all the availalbe options and a brief description, including the paint scheme. Note that the actual option code is the first three characters you have listed (ie, MX1, GQ1 - it's a "Q", not a "O", ZY4, etc). The following digits are just placeholders/junk.

You will find a powertrain chart (page 15) to help you determine what your base axle ratio is/was. For a C20943 model with the 5.7L engine the base axle is, in fact, a 3.73. MX1 indicates a non overdrive automatic which (I assume) is a TH400 in this case. You'll be able to tell visually pretty easily once the truck gets to you.

Keith is there any general packets for my 1973 Cheyenne Super K10. I found nothing on the GM Heritage site. Do you know of any other resources for an older non-17 digit VIN? Thanks Much!!

Should be right here:

http://www.gmheritagecenter.com/docs...olet-Truck.pdf

You just go to the Heritage Center site http://www.gmheritagecenter.com/gm-h...ive/index.html and click on "Vehicle Information Kits". That will take you to a menu that lists all the GM (Chevy) models. Click on Chevrolet Trucks and it will expand to show all of the available model years.

Also - here is the VIN card for the'73 models (trucks are on page 2). We used to carry a laminated version of these around in our shirt pockets while building the trucks.

Re: 1983 GMC Option Codes

Wow, thanks so much Keith! That is a fantastic resource.

I printed it out, three-hole punched it, and put it in a 1" three-ring binder. I am studying it page by page and I am about half way through.

I went to the GM heritage site from one of your other posts but when I tried to open the 1983 chevy truck file all I could get was a blank page. However, your link worked great.

By the time my crew cab arrives I will know all of the details about it. Thanks again!

You are welcome. Your response is precisely what I hope for when I link this stuff.
