1987 C10 question
Going to look at a 87 C10 stepside. Guy says its a carb but I thought that 1987 got the TBI set up? Tried searching google and on here and must be using the wrong search terms cuz I cant find what I`m looking for.

It's supposed to be TBI, first year I believe.

Thanks guys, thats what I thought too. Sounds like he doesnt know what year the truck is. Has the correct late model slant nose and gas doors on the stepside fenders for a 1987 model but who knows.

But not legal here in California. I`m looking for a 73-75 because we dont have to smog anything from 1975 and older. I figured this 1987 would be TBI with very little smog stuff compared to my old 83 C10. Would love to do a LS swap but cant afford it right now so if I get something from 76-87 it has to be smog legal.

IIRC 87 did have have a carbed 350 (I think the VIN code was "M"), but it may have been only in the 1 tons, also most likely 49 state emissions.
Most likely it has been swapped from TBI, some people are not fond of them. -Sam

i'm sitting here waiting for the dude and checked the vin. it has a J for the year which makes it a 1986 which would still be a carb. needs interior work but pretty solid so far. I didnt check under the hood yet or inside. hate doing that when the guy isnt here.

Sorry, did not realize you were in Cali. I have an 87 TBI with headers and duel exhaust with no cats-no inspection here....
That guy has went down from 3k to 2k, you may be able to get a deal. FYI-That back glass is EASY to put in with a new seal..

Yeah it`s a kid who got in way over his head. It runs, had to be jump started but sounded nice, no weird noises. oil psi gauge stuck at 30psi regardless of rpm, oil looks dirty but didnt see any metalics. Told me it was a 350 but smog sticker on radiator support says 5.0 but air cleaner says 5.7 so who knows. Appears to have all the smog equipment. Had flowmasters with a cat, sounds really good. Has split tanks, tilt, cruise, a/c, power windows. Needs interior work but over all its a decent little project. Body is pretty straight. and didnt see any rust other than surface rust. He got it from a guy who got it from a tow yard so no title and 2010 tags so I told him to check with the DMV and see if its a clean title or salvage and if there are any fees. He offered to pay half of any fees. Has a flip kit in the rear and looks like they cut the springs up front but site pretty nice. Needs tires in a bad way too. Has 295/50/15 on the back and they fit nice.

Just heard from the guy. Salvage title, needs a smog and $800 in fees. Told him I will have to pass on it. I`m not dealing with a salvage title.

Yep, told him he might be better off parting it out. I told him if I could get it for $800-$1000 it might be worth it. He came back at $1200 but its still high in my opinion. I`ve got some others I`m looking at too.

that thing looks super clapped out. I know the shortbox models are more often the desirable ones but that one looks like 98,000 x3? Im sure if you keep looking you can find something nicer in the 1500-2000 range.

I thought the same thing. It looks much better in person. The going rate around here lately for a decent driver is $3500-$4000 which is out of my budget. If the title was clean and didn't have a lot of fees I would be happy to pay close to his asking price. Looking at a few this weekend in the 2400-2800 range so we'll see. Seems a lot of them are salvage title for some reason lately.

3/4 ton long beds are all over for super cheap. its the short bed 1/2 tons that are getting harder to find for a good deal.

Crew cabs are pretty rare here. I used to not like them was strictly a singe cab guy but after having one I wouldnt go back
