Steering box needs compatable pump
I have a pre 1980 steering box and want to find a pump thats compatable with it in the Type 11 style.
There are a number of these pumps that look exactly the same, but being that its for my 65 on a sb 400hp,Im confused with high flow, low flow and most of all,a part number! I need to confirm fitting sizes at both ends so I dont order this twice...and any suggestions on a braided hose kit as well. I'd appreciate some input from those who know for sure. I posted a couple pic's here of the pump I want to use.........possibly running this type resevoir if I have the room under the alternator.

Now I am curious about the responses you get--esp. to see what is suggested to do IF YOU USE that type. I must say that it looks kinda neat, less bulky and all. BTW: what make/model did it come from? Sam |

Re: Steering box needs compatable pump
go here...http://www.speedwaymotors.com/search...eering%20pumps they have all the info and every thing down to the fittings to adapt to your steering box, also any lines or hoses and or pulleys. any gm type II pump will work, i have used these for 25 years on oval track race cars and they are pretty much bullet proof. hope this helps.

Besides, plenty of knowledge here in this site. Nothing like the opinions from folks that have tried and tested these components.

Re: Steering box needs compatable pump
A high flow pump will make your steering more responsive (faster reacting) versus a lower flow pump. Do the mfgr's give flow specs in gph? Is there a big difference in flow between the two? The choice might be a matter of personal preference of how you like your steering.

I guess it all comes down to whether I run a remote reservoir now or the LS1 clip on style. I feel with the amount of knowledge I've gained on my build I should find a position working in an auto parts store!
