DIY AD Flatbed Pictures
I am currently in the process of doing a bottom dollar restore on my 1 1/2 ton '53 Chevy. I'll be painting the body a dark green when the weather warms up here. It has a 10 foot flatbed on it right now that is made completely of wood. Anybody have any pictures of beds they have made so I can get some ideas. Here are two pictures of the truck. One before and after I removed the head rack. I am considering putting a short head rack but am undecided. Maybe if I see some pictures of cool beds, I'll get some inspiration.

Here is a pic of the bed that I built. The solid "headache" rack comes up "halfway" on the cab with a pipe frame work above that. I can also bolt 2 spare tires to it. Hope this helps.

Those are some good looking beds! Got any more pics of yours, Trekster? How did you guys raise them off the frame and attach them?

Here's a picture of the frame work. I put a piece of maple from an old bowling alley on top of the frame and then put a piece of 3" channel on top of that with 3" channel cross members. I made the front and sides removable but so far I have never needed to take them off. 47COE - I like your truck. Did you extend the cab? |

Yeah, I like the look of the short sides. I want to make something like that where I can take them off and have a flatbed or put tall sides on using the pockets. I like the idea of using the square steel tubing as well. Mine has 4X6's for cross support right now that are raised off the frame be 4X6's, but it also has tires that are about 35 inches tall.

That is a really cool looking truck, 47coe. I'll probably put some removable rack on the front of mine too. Probably something to match the stake sides.
