help with leaking carb....

So I went into town like I do every morning to get a cup of coffee.
Fired it up, let it warm up. Get going and suddenly the thing will hardly idle and is running super rough.it had been running great. Its a gm crate motor, all new accessories, new edelbrock 600cfm electric choke carb.

It died on me once on my way limping it home.

I get out , pop the hood and its visibly leaking gas!!

I snapped a pic of the spot on the carb where its leaking. I noticed there was a visible gap and that little piece was loose, its on the left hand side of the carb near the back

Hard to tell by your pic... Usually if it's pouring gas into/out of the carb it's either a sunken float... Or stuck needle and seat in my experience. Pop the top off the carb and see if your float is laying in the bottom. My old edelbrock afb left me in the side of the highway once. Brass float got a pin hole along the soldered seam ... And it sunk.

Ok, the plate is stuck I'm the upright position, barely will move a 1/4"

It seems to be hung up on this threaded screw


Do I need to unscrew that so it sits lower for no interference???so that the piece can have full range of motion??

No that screw is normal. It's for the high idle.
Open the throttle slightly and you should be able to close the choke slightly by hand and the screw will then be riding on the cam.
Do you have a fuel regulator?

Hmmm, took it around the block, and it was fine.

But as I moved the throttle cable/linkage , the screw kept getting the fast idle linkage caught on it

It ran fine cause you had some crap in the needle/seat and now it's gone into the carb.
And for the second part, if it went on a high idle (the screw was resting on the cam) then your choke is set too rich.

It never went on a high idle, it started off running normal/idling normal then it felt like it were running out of gas, so it was sputtering and idling rough.

So!
The high idle cam that's held on by the torx type screw.
Do you mean the high idle screw gets stuck behind the cam and not ride on top of it.
Is the screw tight?

It was stuck, i backed the screw out a tad.now it looks like this position in the diagram:

If it was hanging up it would be closing your choke plate making it run rich and rough.
Hopefully it stays put.
