New wiring harness question

Hello guys I have a few questions. For the first time tonight I put power to my new wiring harness. The first thing that came on was the windshield wipers so I switched them off and them started thinking since the key switch was off how come they can on? I can't remember but I don't think the wipers should work with key off. Is that correct? The hardness even has power for door locks and window which all have power with the key off. I can see the door lock power by window too?

It's a new painless harness. Thanks in advance.
Scott

Re: New wiring harness question

I would check the ign switch wiring first.

A question: Do other things like the radio or the heater fan run with the switch in the off positition?

Then there might be a 12v batt circuit back feeding the run circuit

Start removing fuses (leaving the wiper one in) to see if you can get the issue to stop.

If you remove one and it quits working with the ign off. You can then trace back on that circuit to see if you have something miss wired like a relay wired Normally closed when it should be wired normally open.

Or somewhere in that circuit you (can't believe this would happen) connected a wire in the wrong place. :-)

Let us know what you find or don't find.

Re: New wiring harness question

I didn't think the wipers were supposed to work with the key off. I will check the fuses today as I want to find out what's up. Painless doesn't come with the wiper plug as they say they are not remanufactured. So I removed the old wires and wired in the new ones but I would not think that would change if the power to the wiper motor was switched power or power all the time. I will check the fuses and double check the wires.
Thanks sometimes I just need someone else to confirm what I am thinking.
Thanks

Re: New wiring harness question

Ok so I put a test light on the wires to the wiper. When I removed the 30am fuse marked coil the light went out. I follows the wires and no short. Do you think it is because I have not completely finished the wiring? Could it be back feeding? I think I am going to have to call painless.

Re: New wiring harness question

Anyone have a clue? I will be taking the fuse panel appart to see if I can find the short. I even removed the firewall plug and plugged a terminal in the coil lead and my interior lights cam on. I am a little pissed with this. I will be calling painless tommorow.

Re: New wiring harness question

Check that all the wires in the ignition switch plug are in the rite spot. When I did mine I had to switch wires around in the headlight plug to match the headlight switch for any lights to work. You should be able to find a diagram with labels for the ignition switch online or in a factory manual.

Re: New wiring harness question

Well I traced all the wires and found that painless crossed the 2 wires main power and coil wire at the bulk head on assembly. So when I hooked up power to the red wire I was feeding power into the wire that was supposed to supply power to the coils when the key is on. All I had the do was switch the 2 wires at the bulkhead fitting. Works perfectly now.
