1965 Chevy C30 1 ton Dually
My 65 chevy 1 ton dually tow truck getting ready for a facelift. I want to change the wheels and tires for later model chevy dually 1 piece rims. I have 700-18 on it now. The stock wheel studs are 1/2" and later model wheels use 9/16" studs. What are my options?

Re: 1965 Chevy C30 1 ton Dually
Are the newer rims hub-centric or lug-centric? if they are hub centric wouldn't it be acceptable to mount the newer rims with some beveled lug nuts?

Take a look at stockcar lug nuts at Speedway, you can generally get them in larger sizes with different thread sizes.

Re: 1965 Chevy C30 1 ton Dually
Just change the studs (maybe) and go to 19.5" bread van wheels...kinda what we did on my 58. We had the same stock wheels as you do. On the 58, the front was hub-centric and we just slid the 19.5s on and used conical 1/2" lug nuts...no problems. The rear drums on our original Eaton HO 72 were too large for the 19.5s to slip over though. This, coupled with it needing a rebuild, led us to swapping in a 14B rear...no problem with the 19.5s there!

Re: 1965 Chevy C30 1 ton Dually
I put a set of 1992 3500 wheels on my ole C-30 Farm Truck.
The wheels wouldn't clear the old brake drums, so I used 2" adapters which also gave me more track width. There's lots of debate as to safety issues with adapters, but I hauled a lot of dirt, gravel, manure, etc on this truck and never had an issue. A lot of people don't like them though. In my experience, they do a good job.

Re: 1965 Chevy C30 1 ton Dually
My guess most budd style wheels should fit. I have late model Ford 8 hole budds on my 69 IH one ton. The truck has drums on all four wheels and the new wheels fit with no mods.
