ABS Plastic Interior

This discussion has taken place before. I want to share some information with you that I recently discovered. ABS Plastic used in interiors is a great material because you can shape it with heat, paint it and cover it with various fabrics. I also found out that Rod Doors is the only place you should buy it from. They have headliners, door liners and rear cab liners. They fit because they manufacture their own. The others (all made by the same company which I will not disclose because that would not be the right thing to do) do not fit. I was told by the owner of the company that I would have to trim it to fit. The owner of Rod Doors told me that I should not have to trim it to make it fit and I agree. ABS is a great product but be aware of where you but it from. If it does not come from Rod Doors beware of it. Just my experience.

Re: ABS Plastic Interior

Someone else has bought them...moved to Call. They are open with the same molds. You have to call the number on the website. They have not updated the website as of yet. I just got stuff from them 3 weeks ago

Re: ABS Plastic Interior

That is interesting news as I have seen nothing out of the guys who bought it anywhere. Buy a business, and keep such a low profile no one knows you have the business, sounds like a productive plan.

It appears that the new owner hasn't updated the website either except for his phone number and address.

He might be doing a slow roll out to make sure the QC is there. Maybe an admin needs to get a hold of him about becoming an advertiser here?

Re: ABS Plastic Interior

Problem is that it was posted all over the internet when they went out of business years ago. This is the first I heard they were back in business, that is the message that needs to get out. No one that thinks they are out of business will look at the web page, most will assume the guy just never took it down.

Re: ABS Plastic Interior

They were once located in Rocky Mount, NC (North of Raleigh and about 1 1/2 hrs. from me), but moved to CA. The ABS is easy to get and not very expensive. A 4' x 8' sheet is $50.

Re: ABS Plastic Interior

I just got off the phone with Rod Doors (530)828-9426 and had an interesting conversation with them.

They had at one time 15 employees and when the economy went south they had to shrink. Now it just the owner himself doing everything.

He's been in Chico, CA since 1993 after moving from N.C. Same guy, same owner, just a one-man operation now.

They have most all of their product line available .

They have all the panels for the AD crowd and most for the TF's. But nothing for the 60-66 guys at this time.

Of course they have stuff for the hot rods too.

As for his web site, well Its working for him. Actually better then before, something about absence make people what to call and find out what's left and can they get it.
Sort of like an exclusive club that has no published address or sign.

Anyway I asked about door panels for a TF and yes they are available for $259 a pair also has kick panels with or without vent holes. Unfortunately the panel for behind the seat, the mold is broken But he has the pattern so when he gets time he can make a new mold.

Bottom line is Rod Doors never went away, it just went to a one man operation. Same owner same location since '93.

I hope this takes the myth out of the discussion.

Re: ABS Plastic Interior

Thanks Glen that is good to know. It's something to remember that it is a one man show now and parts may take a bit longer to get too.

Re: ABS Plastic Interior

this is good to hear, I bought from them years ago and the customer service was top notch. I too thought they were out of business. why would you post on your website that you went out of business when you never did???

Re: ABS Plastic Interior

Amazing what a phone call can do.

I have a set of their door panels in my C-10, nice quality product. The velcro style fasteners didn't work for me, but a couple well placed upholstery screws did the trick.
