Question Park lamp to fog lamp conversion??

Is it possible to make the park lamps on a 68 into fog lamps then put a headlight in like these for park lamps?

Re: Park lamp to fog lamp conversion??

I have thought about swapping grills to do this. The main issues that I have seen by examining the parts is fitting the housings into the parking light slots. It is more involved than simply swapping bulbs, the housing, and lens need to change as well. One way to do it would be to fab a mounting bracket that would attach to the core support and provide a strong mount for aftermarket fog lights. The alignment and fitment would be very involved with this method.

To make things easier, I would suggest using a '71-'72 front bumper, and installing your fog lights in place of those parking lights, allowing you to keep the factory parking lights in the grille.

The bumper idea is a good idea but will a 71-72 bumper fit on a 68?

Bracket modification to fit a '71 bumper onto a '68 would be more straightforward, and less complex than fabricating and engineering a bracket.

Re: Park lamp to fog lamp conversion??

I looked into that years ago and wound up getting a '67-'68 front bumper plasma cut for fog lamps and rechromed. It's on my '67 K/10 Suburban now. It was criminally cheap in 1978, especially with a buddy working in a chrome shop.
Another way would be to get an extra inner grille lower insert with the flat mounting for the parking lights and fit fog lights there. You could then have the turn signal /parking lights on the other one. Fog lights work best as low as possible.
'67-'68 brackets are different from '71-'72 ones.

I had been thinking that using '71 braces and upper brackets would bolt to the frame and allow the use of the bumper.

It was a long time ago, but IIRC I was told there were issues. But it would have to be tried to find out conclusively. It may have been more expedient at the time to cut out a '67 bumper for a '68.

I used the built in turn signal headlights on a 63' truck I did, you will have to take the wires from the turn/parklights to the new headlights there are two connections on the back of headlights. then you could mount and wire in some foglights in where the old parklights were, should work.. find some about the same size
