Need Shock Advice?

About a year ago I replaced the original 40+ year old shocks with Monroe Gasmatics. The shocks have less than 2000 miles on them and I don't think they are doing the job. The truck feels like it has too much float in it.

Can any of you recommend better shocks? Right now I'm running stock ride height, but plan on eventually going to a 2/4 drop.

Thanks,

Re: Need Shock Advice?

People will tell you not to use what I'm using, but I swear by KYB Gas-A-Just shocks. I've used them on a '69 1-ton, a 93 Corvette, a Jeep Grand Cherokee, and my current '70 1/2 ton. ALL of them rode beautifully. They stiffen up when needed and ride nice on the highway.

x2 -- they're on my K20 and I had them on our old Grand Cherokee. Great shock for the money, firmer than stock but not harsh, and they last quite a while.

Re: Need Shock Advice?

After a lot of research I put Monroe Sensa Tracs on my long wheelbase C10 coil spring truck. I'm sure the rear shocks had been changed at one time but the fronts were originals. I immediatley noticed the difference in ride quality and handling ( if you don't already have one, a front sway bar is a must on these trucks) and for the price of them the Sensa Tracs are a good value. There is place in Michigan called eshocks.com and they sell Bilsteins ( which are a Heavy Duty shock) for a good price and were offering free shipping within the USA. I would have bought those from him but shipping was 85.00 to me in Canada and I refuse to pay those kind of rip-off shipping prices.

Re: Need Shock Advice?

Thanks guys, I appreciate the feedback.

I've used Bilstein in the past on a 95 Yukon and they lasted forever. They're on my Corvette also.

Anyone have any experience with Bilstein?

Thanks,

Re: Need Shock Advice?

KYB make a very good quality shock, Monroe does as well, but the Gasmatic, and Charged HD versions are bargain bin quality. If you want to run Monroes, I would suggest the Reflex.

Re: Need Shock Advice?

Bilsteins are a great shock for a performance setup, I have a set on my blazer and they give it a nice firm ride.

Re: Need Shock Advice?

I got my Bilsteins from eshocks.com. I believe I paid about $240-$260 for them.
