Motor wiring help.

I'm needing help wiring my motor up. I've switched to a newer alternator with an internal regulator so i can get rid of the old external regulator, I also have a new h.e.i distributor. Anyways I'm wanting to clean the wiring up at the same time so I'm needing to know what all I need to keep and get rid of. Does any one have a simple wire diagram I could follow. I tired finding one online but I'm kinda chasing my tail probably typing in the wrong thing or something ha. Thanks

Re: Motor wiring help.

Use the search bar at the top of this page, click the dot to 67-72chevytrucks.com type alternator in the box and hit google button. Tons o'stuff in there. As for the hei, I run mine with a heavy wire connected to an auxiliary port on the fuse block labeled "ignition unfused" works great.

Re: Motor wiring help.

Run a new #8 wire from the battery to the lug on the horn relay. Tape off the old wiring to the alternator. Run a new #8 wire from the alternator to the lug on the horn relay or right to the battery depending on what side your alternator is on. For my hei i ran a new #14 wire from the key switch to the distributor.

Re: Motor wiring help.

sharps40 did a real nice writeup with lots of pics on this. Do a search using his name and you should be able to find it easily. Also, in the electrical section, there are LOTS of great diagrams, just spend a few minutes searching.
