2nd/3rd Row Seats
Hi all, I've been searching around the forum and haven't found quite the answer I need. I've been shopping around for a 'Burb, kind of waiting to find the right one. My question is regarding the seats.
I understand the third row seats are tough to find, is it better to hold out for a truck that has them installed or to find the best truck I can and then search for the seats? Also, is the wide second row seat the same dimensions as the third or is it too wide to fit between the wheel wells? I'm assuming it doesn't fit, because it seems to easy a solution. Thanks for your input! Steve |

Hi Steve, Welcome to the board! There are actually two 2nd row seats a 3/4 and a full width. The 3/4 is used when the 3rd seat is used, so people can get around it to get to the rear seat. I think they are all different as far as mounting and width but I am not 100% sure. Someone will chime in here and confirm whether or not I am correct. LockDoc

Re: 2nd/3rd Row Seats
Mine has both, Can't imagine getting to the back with the full width second seat. Imagine the wear and tear of sliding over it.

The kids probably wouldn't have a problem with it but Grandma might complain a little..... You are right though, it wouldn't be long until the seat would get messed up... LockDoc

Re: 2nd/3rd Row Seats
steve welcome to the board
the second and third seats are different from one another the far back or 3rd has a raised back rail for mounting , as to match the hump or kick-up in differential area , and as stated in previous post #2 seat is a 2/3 width allowing access to #3 |

Re: 2nd/3rd Row Seats
Any pics Undertaker72?
My Suburban was a 2 seater. I purchased a third seat (I was told it was out of a Blazer) but it turned out to be a 3/4 middle seat. A Suburban middle seat will have 9" tall brackets in the front and 2.5" bracket for the rear. From what I've seen. the rear seat brackets are around 4" tall

Re: 2nd/3rd Row Seats
The second seat can is full width if there's no 3rd or 2/3's if there's a 3rd seat. I have all 3 rows. 2nd and 3rd are the same width. Hardware that attaches them is the only difference. I won't let the fact that the 3rd seat wasn't there stop me from buying a nice sub. You can work it out later.

Re: 2nd/3rd Row Seats
I too had a need for a 3 seat burb, but I found a really nice 2 seat. Yes it has the full width 2nd row, so I am going to install the 3rd seat facing backwards....then you can get in from thn barn doors. Like the station wagon's I grew up ridding in.
If I remember correctly from my first burg it will just bolt in same location just facing backward, but don't quote me...yet. I will be using the space between the seats for radio bass box and storage.... 3rd row can be hard to find, and although length is as the short 2nd row, the "legs" on the two seats are different, and welded in place. I found a 3rd row in about a week just posting on this board. Although I will have to recover the seat to match color of burb......... hope that helps... Ludwig

Re: 2nd/3rd Row Seats
I thought the brackets just bolted to the bottom rail.
IIRC, they are the same as the Blazer/Jimmy back seat.

Re: 2nd/3rd Row Seats
Thanks for all the feedback, found one in Phoenix last week and drove it back home to Northern California.
72 4x4 with all three rows of seating, front and rear A/C, rust free, and not a single drip in the driveway after sitting for a week! I'll take some pics tomorrow and put em up. |

Re: 2nd/3rd Row Seats
Actually bought the 3rd row seat out of either a 1968-1970 Suburban from a salvage yard. I was going to just make a couch out of it until I cleaned it up and found out it was original, WOW!!

That's a nice looking seat. Probably plenty of buyers for that!
