Threw a rod this weekend!!!
Maybe.
I have only had the truck a year and a half. The motor was previously rebuilt before I got it with mabye 4000 miles since rebuild. I saw the receipts. Any how, just cruising down the high way and I start to hear a terrible clapping sound. Limp over to the side of the road and the sound gets louder and harder as I pull over. Then the motor dies. I Got towed home. Truck still starts, just with a horrible knocking. Am I right? A rod thrown? I think I can get by with just replacing the short black right? Everything off your should bolt up to a 350. I don't know if your heads will be what you want on a 350.
That sux about your engine. Why I am thinking about a crate motor with a warranty!

zumo,
when my straight six went, it wasnt a rod. the head dropped a valve, which knocked around in the piston cylinder for about 30 seconds, and then rammed itself into the side of the front cylinder wall. (this consequently shattered the piston, dropped the piston rod, which rammed up into the bottom of the block). anyways, i pulled the head, and found an additional two valves were completely frozen. because of that whole experience, i believe upgrading the heads is the way to go. hopefully, there isnt any damage to the block. but as long as that engine is knocking, DONT RUN IT if you can avoid it! good luck tearin her apart, and let us know what the outcome is! jewels.

Did you take the valve covers off yet to see what was the damage?
I had the same kind of problem on the highway when I was going to KS earlier this month, I was doing maybe 70 mph and all of a sudden I heard this snappind/popping loud noise, I pulled over and checked real quick under the hood, and everytime I'd hit the gas the clapping would get louder, I limped to the next exit and got to a shop, guy there listened to my motor and it said it was either a rocker arm or a pushrod, I pulled the valve covers off and sure enough, a rocker arm had broken in half!, replaced it and $40 later I was on my way, just ask Longhormail, he saw that rocker arm. I hope that you only have the same problem I had, good luck tearing that motor apart.

it couldnt be a rod, or it would'nt be runnin and you would most likely have a large exit hole in the block . hopefully it's like they have said, and you've just got a valvetrain problem. much luck!

Well I pulled one side and it looked fine. I really havent had time to look at it since I am putting up a privacy fence. That was what I was using it for. I was lucky I was able to pick up all the lumber before it crapped out on me. I'll probably look at it in a few days.

my 327 imploded about 2 months ago, same kind of noise, also on the interstate, mine broke the crank under a cap.

it's pretty easy to tell an upper end problem from a lower end one by the sound, and the location... you may have spun a bearing or two, which would allow the motor to run but have a serious lower end knock...
