weight reduction

I was talking to a guy at the track this weekend and he mentioned taking out some crossmembers and things form his truck (72 lwb) and he shed about 500lbs. Any ideas on this? anyone messed around with weight reductioon on their truck?

Crossmember? As in bed-crossmembers? I would not remove them since they add weight over the rear wheels and in a PU you need all the weight back there you can get.

Try this..

-glass hood
-glass bumper
-glass fenders
-glass inner fenders
-remove inner fenders
-alum wheels
-bench seat as opposed to buckets
-one racing seat as opposed to bench/buckets
-remove heater/AC/radio stuff
-alum heads/accessories
-plastic HL bezels as opposed to metal ones
-lexan windows
-no carpet/sound deadening/headliner
-lose some bady fat (not saying you have some, but if you do...)
-run 1/2 tank of gas as opposed to full (unles you have a relocated tank)
-wear shorts, not pants
-wear short sleeve shirt, not long
-shave your head
-clip finger/toenails
-wax vehicle to make is less wind resistance
-put TG down
-move battery to the bed
-elec fan as opposed to clutch
-if you had 4 wheel drum brakes you could adjust them to zero drag
-if you have power windows/locks...conver to manual operation
-remove door panels/dash pad

just some ideas to get you thinking.

...Jeff

move the battery to the bed
move the gas tank to the back
manual accessories instead of power
remove all cushy accessories ( AC/ PS pump)

You can always take about 5 lbs of air out of each tire....That shoud be good for 20 pounds.
