? about running full size spindles on an S10
So, I have a '49 GMC that is being put on a S10 chassis. What I want to do is use a set of spindles from my '79 in order to have the correct bolt pattern to match the rear. I already know that the lower ball joints will need swapped due to the taper difference. What I don't know is what effects it will have.I have heard that taller spindles will lower the roll center and improve handling, is this true?
I plan on getting tubular uppers, so if length changes are needed for the taller spindles that is not a problem. Will also be doing a static drop. The plan is to use Rob's numbers from the Make It Handle thread for the specs. While the front end is apart I will be replacing the box with a 12:1 and possibly a steering quickener. I guess what I am asking is will the taller spindles give me any problems with bump steer, toe, camber, or caster? I want the truck to be drivable for both me and the wife. I have driven all kinds of wandering beasts but she has not.

Re: ? about running full size spindles on an S10
If your talking about b body spindles that is a real common swap on s10s and g bodies. Some people say they have bump steer some don't.But if you do have it baer makes a set of bump steer tie rod ends that will cure it.

Re: ? about running full size spindles on an S10
The spindles I want to use are from a '79 truck. I have heard of the B body swap, that is what got me thinking about doing this.
The main reason I ask, is because I would have to weld new ball joint cups in the lower control arms in order to use 10 degree ball joints. This would effectively ruin the arms for normal use. The S10 uses 7 degree joins both upper and lower, while the C10 uses 7's up top and 10's for the lower.

Re: ? about running full size spindles on an S10
I would imagine there will be changes to all of the geometry. B-body spindles are a closer swap option & they have known issues. If the C10 spindle was an option, the S10/g-body group would utilize them.
Seems it would be easier to adapt the correct bolt pattern in the rotor by doing Lt duty 1" brake rotors w/f-body spindles.

Re: ? about running full size spindles on an S10
Rob (No Limit) did a S10 build in that section. I believe he used an Impala spindle and the 12" rotors they use, the Impala has a 5 on 5 lug pattern. He also showed a mod to the center link for improved geometry.

Re: ? about running full size spindles on an S10
Thanks for the info auggie, that's the kind of stuff I am looking for.
As far as bolt pattern goes I will be running '95 Dodge rotors on the '79 Chevy spindles in order to have 5x5.5 bolt pattern. This whole build is being based on a set of wheels that I want to use.

Sounds like a ton of work when you could just get different rims.

Is the bolt pattern the main reason you want to do this? If so theres alot cheaper and easier options out there.

Re: ? about running full size spindles on an S10
The rims are 20" Dodge spares. I decided that they were what I wanted after seeing Grimm's panel truck.

As far as being cheaper options, I have all the parts sitting in the barn. These are also all off the shelf parts at just about every auto parts store in the country.
