ignition wiring

Bought a new column and put the ignition back in the dash where it belongs. How in the world do I trace these wires to see which one is ign, acc and so on?? The battery I got! The guy just cut the wires and butt connected them to random colored wires that plugged into the newer model column I yanked out.

Re: ignition wiring

You could use a test light. I always have been able to trace wires with them. There are two types. One with a battery for tracing wires without power and one with no battery for wires running power.

Thank you! Loving this forum. Found some wiring diagrams and dug in. At 1st I had 2 wires flipped so when the key was in the acc or on position the starter was turning. I had the pink and purple wire switched. Everything works!
