Door Weld

Anyone have any expereince welding a crack on the door around one of the door hinge bolting areas? Do they hold over time? Just wondering if they're fixable or if I'm just doomed to always have trouble w/it recracking? thanks.

Do you have a pic? Why is it cracking?

If it's because rust has weakened the area, then you're hooped, but I'm not sure otherwise why it'd crack. I mean compare how light our doors are compared to a mid-70s Monte Carlo or Eldorado, ours are super-light by comparison.

You can fix it by making an L shaped braket and brace it off the inside of the door no need to weld it just put longer bolts thru it make an L braket out of a piece of thick mmetal drill holes in it to match the holes in the door hinge and put nuts on the inside tighten it up then drill one or two holes in the inside with your door panel off put bolts and nuts on those and it will last forever , comon problem on these trucks people jump out and just let the door go ! Eventually it breaks out around the hinge ,

I have had good luck welding up the cracks and they hold over time if you weld the inside and the outside. If the metal is rusted then it will need to be replaced. The ones that I have seen cracked because the hinge pins froze up.

if you v grove bot sides and ge a good weld it should last lnger than you.

I've always been told drill a hole at both end of the crack then weld it. Supposedly it lessens the chance of re racking

I would sandblast the area, dril a small hole at the end of each crack and weld it up, making sure the welds penitrate to the bracket on the inside.

I bought two doors from AZ and they both needed to be welded in this same area. I'll let you know if they crack again so tune in about twenty years from today, OK?
