swap power steering help

Ok guys I need some help on power steering(yes I know this has been talked about before as far as swapping in the origional hoses...but when i sold my old motor i left the power steering hoses on it like a dumbass).

So I am confused on the best way to go about this now that i dont have my stock pump and hoses. I do have plenty of braided 6 an line laying around.
does anybody know what fittings i would need or what the sizes are on this pump? this motor is out of an 2005 silverado. I am open to ideas here... just not sure on the best way to go about it. Can i make the stock silverado lines work etc?

go to the junk yard and get the fitting out of a 70s pump i paid 50 cent for the fitting spring and vavle, and only like 17 dollars for a new hose at the auto store

I think what he was talking about is getting the fitting out of the back of the pump. There is also a valve behind that fitting. Then you can go buy a stock hose for your truck and you dont have to mess with the fittings on the gear box.You will still need to make a return hose which is not that hard. I had to do a little hand bending of the metal line to make it fit right. Here is my set up.

Truckdude's solution is probably easiest and fastest, but here's an alternative. I can't remember the sizes right now, but I went from a '79 inverted flare PS gearbox to a '92 metric gearbox, and used a simple, cheap fitting designed for air conditioning, super cheap, less than $10. Search for a Four Seasons 16746 O-Ring to Flare A/C Adapter Fitting." It works well, no leaks. It came with the green O-rings for AC stuff, that I switched for a different one, because I didn't know if the green one would hold up to PS fluid. I got mine from Amazon, and had free shipping since I am a Prime member. Maybe you can find a Heating/AC supply place in your area that carries them.

This advice is right on the mark. Here's a similar fitting, but in brass:

It fits into the metric o-ring fitting on the new pump and then the stock (inverted flare) hose will screw in and seal. This works because the threads between 16mm o-ring and 3/8 inverted flare are close enough that they will interchange.

not a single junkyard in the area has those fittings...i wonder if i take the pressure line off the 05 pump if someone makes an adapter fitting that will connect to that hose and then to the steering box?

I just got the adapter from Ebay by googling four seasons 16746 and it came up with the interchange part..

Did you get it figured out, or do you need the early (flair nut fitting)? I have a couple pumps....if you need the fitting, I can mail it to you? It probably wont go out till Monday? At any rate, I will give you the best deal...free 99, & will cover the mail cost....just pay it forward (help the next guy out)! If you need it, shoot me a pm, with zip & addy to send. Longhorn

update crazy longhorn hooked me up with some stock pump fittings! Should be here tomorrow then I can just use the stock pressure hose. Way to pay it forward! THats what makes this board awesome sometimes.

Any one have the part numbers for the stock 70 hoses .. Rock auto has like 5 different ones. My steering box has female fittings

Looking at Rockautos page, I think the one you are looking for is the Edelman 70917. That one like the one in my photo up top. If it's like mine you will have to bend the tubing going to the back of the pump just a little to get it to thread on there.

Just a thought, due to pump/mounts/placement, you may find that the later pressure hose (say 73-78), may fit better? If you are missing the return, the short flair nut tube, will probably be a boneyard or dealer item...as all the aftermarket offers is the hose itself. I run an 84 Burb (metric box), on my truck...altho, it has O-ring fittings, the hoses are much the same as the mid 70's hoses, & fit the chassis 67-72. My truck (gen I engine), was originally set up with a long waterpump (1975 pcs). I swapped to the metric box later, just ordered the hoses to fit. The O-ring hose also fit right to the LS pump...its like falling into a bucket of poop...but you don't stink when you get back out It drives the parts house guys nuts at times ...but that is what they get paid for Longhorn

I believe this is the correct number. As for your return you dont need a formed hose, just use the metal lines you have for the return and on the pump and put a hose with clamps on it.

I got to stop posting on this. Mine started leaking yesterday. Took it a part thinking I was going to rebuild the sector. Took the wheel off and started messing with it and found the low pressure side hose was split right behind the clamp. Couldn't see it with the clamp in place. New hose and rerouted it so it want have any pressure on it are rubbing against anything.

After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

I pulled a bbc and am now installing a 5.3 in my 71 2wd blazer. The fitting on the end of the high pressure line that originally screwed directly into the Saginaw pump ironically fit right into the stubbed out line on the ls pump. I kinda thought it was too simple but threaded up nicely. Was this too simple or should I have done something differently?

It just that simple If you feel that the steering does not have the proper "feel", you might change the spring/valve ? Longhorn
