72 lwb Fleetside bed conversion help.
I am in the middle of my build and decided to change my bed from a steel floor to a wood floor bed. I have all of the new sills, header plate and even have new box sides. My problem is where the metal floor was welded to the rear sill I now have a gap approx 1/4 to 1/2 inch. Is this normal? Any pics of wood beds where the rear sill joins the box would be helpful.
Thanks Kevin

Re: 72 lwb Fleetside bed conversion help.
You need that piece for a wood floor bed (called a "rear cross sill") AND a header panel for a wood floor bed as well.

Re: 72 lwb Fleetside bed conversion help.
Pics? Have you installed the tailgate to see if the bedsides are "square" (the tops aren't bowed in slightly causing the gap at the bottom?)

Yeah, you definitely want to check the tailgate fit before you burn in the back piece!
...and it could be you got a crappy aftermarket piece too

Re: 72 lwb Fleetside bed conversion help.
Okay I put on my tailgate and now I have another question. My tailgate seemsto be to short. It is approx 1/8 inch short it seem. The top of the gate does not line up with the top of the box sides. But the body lines are okay.
The box sides and gate are aftermarket which I'm se is the problem. I am going to put the original rusty gate on and see if it is box sides or gate issue. Has anyone else had this issue? Thanks Kev
