My new Toy

I found this board a few weeks back and finally had time to take a couple of pics. Here is my new Baby. I picked it up a month ago. It's a 72 C-10 Custom Deluxe Highlander with 105 thou miles. I'm the 3rd owner, it has a bunch of options. Factory tack, original highlander upholstry is in great shape, fresh paint. Now where do I start??? I think wheels and tires are the first order of business.

Thanks, I picked it up on a whim. I was just going out to the people's house to look at a boat.... but as soon as we hit the driveway and could see the truck my wife was like "Oh s&$#"
I had been looking for a nice old chev for awhile and at 4500 bucks I couldn't pass this one up.

Hi. Good to see your truck. You're the guy with the "mystery" extra coil spring, correct?

Anyway, nice looking truck. Couple of things I noticed.

1. Was truck repainted at some point? The usual 2 tone on 72's had the roof pillars and door glass channels painted white too. Your's looks like a 67/68 2 tone with only the cab roof and back painted white.

2. Real aux helpers, rear HD coils, and optional 3:73 with the auto tranny (the standard RPO was 3:08 with 1/2 ton v8/auto). Must have been ordered to haul loads by original buyer.

3. Most interesting of all to me is the Highlander Plaid seat but no RPO code for the highlander promo package? The highlander promo consisted of tilt, auto, special wheel covers, door edge guards, etc. Your truck has none of this listed or installed except auto and wheel covers. I wonder if the highlander plaid was an RPO on it's own and your's is not produced as part of the highlander promo. The highlander I had, had all the individual RPO's listed as well as one labeled "Special promo". Do you have any documentation on it?

That is an outstanding truck. $4,500 sounds like a heck of a buy!

Hey there, Yes my truck is the one with the mystery 3rd springs. I think you are right about it being rigged in for a camper or something. The original owner lived in kindof a farm town here in Colorado, so that would explain why he ordered it with the heavy duty springs and gear ratio.
Yes the truck was painted a few years back. Not by me.

FYI, i was not faulting your truck. Nice score. Ditch the wheels and put on some OE steel wheels and dog dish hubcaps, the chrome ones with the blue bowie in the center, or a set of full wheel covers with the fake lugnuts, like the ones she was born with!

No offense taken, I'm not a perfectionist when it comes to restoring cars. I'm just glad the previous owners went with a 2 tone paint job at all, I don't like the look of the solid color ones. I'm not real interested in the truck being absolutely correct like the day it rolled off the showroom floor. I'm just planning to pull my boat with it and take it to the home depot once in awhile. Then in 15 years sell it for 3 times what I paid
Thanks
Tony
P.S. I'm going to pick up 2 tons of flagstone this weekend, we'll see how all those extra springs handle it. Last time I got a full pallet of stone it was in my father-in-laws 69 C-20. His C-20 handled 2 tons no problem, the axle wasn't even riding the stops.

Yes the boat is the reason I got the truck. I went to look at the boat and right beside it the people had this truck sitting with a 4 sale sign..... so I bought them both. I like the color scheme of the boat and truck .... red white and blue!!!!

I know this is knit-picking but even with group A, it's missing the door edge guards and below eyeline mirror RPO's on the glove box. My highlander had all the separate items listed as well as a "Special Promo" RPO

Yea, it's wierd that he doesn't have the entire highlander package on the sticker or on the truck. Maybe he just loved that upholstry and ordered it with the highlander seatcover. Who knows. It's a mystery.
Thanks for the compliments!
