Cool Let's drop another 67 short bed

Good afternoon guys.

I trust the guidance of these forums as these boards have always pointed me in the right dirrection.

67 short bed with leafs in the rear. I will stay away from lowering blocks and notching the frame. I don't mind spending money to do it right, but it's always nice to go cheap when it's done right.

What kit's do you like for the money and ride quality? I am looking for aprox a 3" drop up front and 5 in the back. I'd like more, but for now I want to keep my long tube's.

Thank you in advance, here is what we are up against.

Re: Let's drop another 67 short bed

Forgot to mention. I have disks in the front.
Reading a little more I would consider a 4/6inch as long as a notch isn't required.

I'd go with a 4/6 drop instead, but most say you will require a c notch if you go that low. Also an adjustable track bar,

ECE has 4" drop leafs and you can add their 1.5" lowering shackles for a total of 5.5"

I disagree. His truck looks like a 4x4. A nice drop on a 2wd truck looks so much better imho.

I was born in southern California and my parents are from Mexico.
This truck is a legitimate "taco hauler" as you so eloquently put it.
Haha, I'll take the compliment though.

My other trucks are 4x4 however. Modified suzuki samurai and a fj cruiser. I use trucks here in the rockies

lol the taco hauler was something that came up spur of the moment not bashing just see so many drops it drive me crazy i love all cars i think low riders are some of the most beautiful cars out there heck i have rally stripes on my truck that i plan to borrow the low rider theme of lacing my stripes but when i see a truck especially like yours i say dont kill its stance there are almost no trucks left with their natural stance but each to their own i just like your truck the way it is

Re: Let's drop another 67 short bed

I just ordered a power disc/ 2/4 drop kit from CPP. They told me that 3/5, which I had ordered originally, would require a c notch. I was bummed when they told me that.

I have the DJM flip. Nicely done kit. I didn't notch and only bottom out occasionally. You do have to move the shock mounts so the shocks are more upright.

Did you purchase after market shock mounts or just cut and re-weld?

Nice, I actually just got the truck. Previous owner had it sprayed in prime. From what I can tell it has not been sanded as there are a few rough patches.

Re: Let's drop another 67 short bed

I just drilled out the second hole in the shock mount bracket with a step bit and used the stud that came with the replacement Monroe shocks. I had to get a bolt that threaded all the way down and some lock washers from the local ACE hardware, the bolt that came with the shocks didn't thread far enough down. I used the stock front size in the rear as 'drop shocks' and they seem ok...might actually measure one day.

Re: Let's drop another 67 short bed

Alright. Almost there, I'd like to post up my thought process for any future rear leafers as the information is scattered online.

I called Early Classic Suspenion and figured out most of the set up.

For now I will run a 5.5 drop from ECE in the rear. This is 4.5 leaf drop and 1" leaf shackle drop. http://www.earlyclassic.com/catalog....gory=New+Items
I like the idea of getting new leaf packs the accomplish the drop.
I was really wanting to flip the leafs under the axle, however this is going to be an aprox 7" drop and require holes to be drilled for the shocks. For anyone interested in a axle flip, DJM sells a kit.

I am going to run a 2.5" drop spindle and 1-1.5" lowering coil spring up front with new shocks all around. There really is no other way as I belive just drop springs will be too harsh on the ride. http://www.earlyclassic.com/catalog....gory=New+Items
Aprox. $1000 shipped.

I don't think that I need to notch with the drop leafs @ 5.5" and I can always go lower with a block if I do decide to notch one day.

I need to make a few more measurements before ordering, I should have this sorted out to order over the weekend.

lol I measured about 7inches in clearance from the long tube header to the ground. I'll run it for now and adjust later to get my perfect stance with an old school rim/tire combo. (not sure what I want yet) 15's?

With 15" wheels you will want to use a taller tire in the front to give yourself some additional long tube ground clearance. I have 4.5" drop in the front. When I had 265/50-15 on the front I had about 1-1.5" clearance under the lower control arm. I was not comfortable driving it like that, so I put on 235/70-15. Gave me about another 1.5-2" of clearance.

You will most likely still need to drill the holes to relocate the shocks just because of the geometry change...no biggie as that was probably the easiest part of the whole drop. New leafs are never a bad idea as the bushings are all new as well.

I have the 2.5" spindle 1" spring combo and you don't need drop shocks for it as the geometry remain relatively the same.

Make sure you have at least two sets of jack stands for frame and axle, a floor jack, and at least one other jack to help 'nudge' stuff into position.
