Quits When Put in Gear
Did my yearly maintenance, oil change, timing at 10-12 degrees advance on my 427, installed the rebuilt Speed Demon 800DP set the idle at 800 or so and went for a test drive. . . well kinda. When I put the truck (700R) in gear and it kills and smells like it is dieseling. Retarded it a bit and increased the idle, still killed when put in gear. Does not seems to have a vac leak. What to do next?????

Re: Quits When Put in Gear
Timing is probably fine at 10-12. If your carb was just rebuilt, it's probably out of adjustment. Set the float level, and adjust your idle mixture and idle speed both with a vacuum gauge. Check again for vacuum leaks.

Re: Quits When Put in Gear
It dies likely due to lack of initial timing and idling on the power circuit in the carb.
Leave your timing at 12, hook the vac pot on the dizzy to manifold vac, your idle will increase and then turn the idle down to 700 rpm. |
