67-72 air conditioning swap?

Does any one know if the 73 up to? air conditioning will fit in our 67-72 trucks couldn't find any thing on this i see Vintage air 1400. if 73 up fits will be a lot cheaper im on a no budget.lol Don't mind investing the time .Thanks Oz

How are you going to put the hoses to the vents? 67-72 has round "dryer vent" hose. 73-87 has plastic boxes that direct the air. The heater core comes out different. The controls are different. Lot of fabricating.

The 73-87 evaporator will fit in the 67-72 box, the compressor will fit if you have all the right brackets. Some hose fabrication required.

I will check out putting the evaporator in the 68 box that would be the hard part .Put a better blower in and the rest is not bad to do.Found a company that makes brackets for big block chevys so you can use small block serpentine belt set up .Costs 150.00 i am going to run a sanden 708 compressor.

Have you done this ?If you put the evaporator in how do you work inside the cab?Put a water shut off for the heater core and install a better blower motor?And i suppose you could adapt out going hoses and install side vents?Just thinking aloud .

I used the 73-up evap from classic industries and accumulator/orifice tube to eliminate the POA, sanden 508, vintage air brackets and parallel flow condenser, fabbed hoses and hard lines, working like a champ for 6 years now

If you are going with R134 (which is most likely) a parallel flow condensor is key in achieving cold air in all driving conditions/temperatures.

Yes sir that condenser is key, electric fans would be even better but haven't got around to it yet. I would even say, as much as I hate to admit it, that it probably works better than it did with r-12. I can probably get some part numbers and pictures up just give me some time.

I have one from Classic auto air.. it fits nicely in the original condenser mounting holes. Even so I still had to drill a hole for the upper condenser line. barely visible but painful to do nonetheless.

Thanks im going with a serpentine set up that uses small block pulleys and brackets on a big block its cool Kwik performance inc.

I looked extensively into this but have not got to this stage yet. The Sanden enhanced S7 is a very high performance compressor that equals the one that came stock in our year models from what I understand. The 508 is acutally pretty small from my research and so I am going to put the more powerful compressor in. I plan on doing as Clinebarger has suggested as it is simple and makes perfect sense.
