I need some advise....
I have been looking at trucks the last couple weeks. I have narrowed it down to a couple. 64 SWS or a 64 LWS. The short box is what I really was looking for. Its got some pretty good rust. Has original six banger with three on the tree. Runs and driven daily. Small back window. Needs rockers, cab mounts, fender bottoms. Im sure more stuff that I can't see.
The other one is a Long Box Fleet side.Has all the chrome down the sides. Chrome grille and bumper. Original 283 turbo 350 trans. power steering,Add on A/C,Big Back window.....ZERO RUST. Guy says never ever saw snow. So what one is the better choice.Im looking for a bang around truck that I could maybe restore some day. I really want something I can park and not worry about it. I have a restored car that I never ever drive... Any advise would be appreciated. |

Re: I need some advise....
I can fix rust. I just don't want to have to do it. Lots of rusty trucks around here they salt the hell out of the roads. I see new cars with rust...

Re: I need some advise....
One thing you cant do is settle for something you dont really want. If you do, you will just endup spending more later for wht you originally really wanted. If you re not confident of your time or ability to fix the rust, why not just wait, im sure a shortbed with less rust will popup eventually.

Is the short bed a fleet side? Choose whichever one you like best.

Re: I need some advise....
How much time do you have to put into it? If the answer is none, get the long bed. If the answer is some, get the short bed.
I would grab the long bed in a heart beat, but I actually like them better. |

Re: I need some advise....
I have a long bed like you are looking at and like it a lot. And I am a big fan of the big back window. So I would be all over that one. And its BBW.

Re: I need some advise....
Can you cut out a small back window and make it a big one? Looks like it would be easy....I hate to use the word easy but could be done????

Re: I need some advise....
No question for me I'd go with the long bed. Zero rust is worth more than can be imagined. As mentioned if you already know about a bunch of rust, consider there is 3 times that much that doesn't show. Much easier to shorten the frame/bed than fix any significant amount of cancer.

Re: I need some advise....
When I rotated back from overseas my Grandfather gave me his 64 Chevy short bed stepside... I loved that truck.. The 7th largest mistake I ever made in my life was selling it years later.
I never liked Long bed fleets... I drive a Long Bed Fleet Now.. and I like it,, it grows on you.. what I really like is I can fit my dirt bikes in the back and close the tail gate.. "IF" you can afford it... buy both.. project one and drive the other. No mater your decision,, your going to like the one you have... |

Re: I need some advise....
Well when I was 15 years old I bought a 66 Impala that was in the local paper. It was a fresh from AZ car. I stripped the hole car. Bought all new chrome. Painted it Aztec Bronze. drove it all through High School. Drove it in my wedding. Picked up my oldest son at the hospital when he was born....u get the idea. A few years later the paint started cracking...(Lauqer) So I stripped the hole car and I worked in parts at a Chevy dealer. I bought every single part new on the outside I could get for the car. I took it to Super Chevy in Maple Grove PA. It ended up making Super Chevy magazine. Last time I drove it was ten years ago. Its been stored in my building for about ten years.... Now you guys have the hole story...
