My new 71 SWB project. A road trip may be in order!!!
Well I was able to get my hands on a nice 71 SWB fleet side. I can't wait to get it home. I'm looking forward to tearing into it. It will make a nice project. I found it in Arizona and had a friend out there go and check it out. A road trip from Arizona to Buffalo, NY may be in order. What do you guys think? This makes me want to…

My only question is why would you want to "tear into it"... I would just drive it. LockDoc

yeah I guess that didn't sound so good. I may drive it from Arizona to Buffalo before restoring it. How's that? It has a 6-cyl, 3-spd on column. Perfect for the long trip.

Fly out and drive it back. Take a ton of pics, maybe some video. It's like your own "Roadkill" trip!
But before you go, either ship tools or buy some before embarking. You'll need 'em no doubt. |

I know you are a busy man. How will you ever find time to drive that cross-country? I,on the other hand, have a very flexible schedule and am very well versed in getting a 67-72 from point A to point B no matter how far. I think you better consider me for this duty since I am someone you know and trust (from the little time we spoke at Carlisle last spring )

Nice truck, I see it has a rear swaybar, that's nice, drop a V8 and 700r4 in here in the correct V8 position and just drive it,,,,,,,

Re: My new 71 SWB project. A road trip may be in order!!!
^^^ Tommy can vouch for me. We met at a local junkyard last Saturday and spent an hour or two lookin' and pullin'. So,we know each other like brothers now. There's no better way to judge a man's character than by his junk yard manners. I carefully removed parts (unlike certain types who tear things up)...Then tossed them under the vehicle when I realized I didn't have my wallet!

I see what you're saying. I'm not sure and won't know until I get out there to verify it. Although for this project it probably won't matter. I was really just looking for a rolling chassis. Everything else is just a bonus.

Re: My new 71 SWB project. A road trip may be in order!!!
Awesome!
I grew up going to Darien Lake a couple times every summer. I think it's a "six flags" now, whatever that means. I brought up a truck from SC to Ellery (Jamestown) NY in the mid/late 90's. Be prepared for all of the offers Man, I'd have a hard time doing anything other than a drop, smaller tires (they look like giant balloons), and backing that six with an S10/camaro T5. Great find!

Re: My new 71 SWB project. A road trip may be in order!!!
My mom has worked for Cummins since the early 90's. The "shop picnic" was held there every year. Had lots of fun at that place. I loved the coasters. The laser show they started doing was neat too. Even saw Bryan Adams perform there in the late 90's?

Looks like a nice t ruck. As mentioned above, needs a little drop and smaller tires on those slots. BTW, I noticed it has 72 door panels. (?)

Re: My new 71 SWB project. A road trip may be in order!!!
Good catch. I don't know why it has those panels and not the correct 71 panels. I wish I could see the door to see if it is actually a 72 door and has the screw on top by the vent window. Hopefully they are the correct doors and just the panels were changed out. I'll find out at some point. Until now it's locked up in storage at my friends house in Arizona.

I took a look at my other trucks and the axle seems a bit forward in those pictures too. Here are side views of each truck (69 C20, 70 K10 and 71 C10).

I would never deprive you such a great experience, and chance to unwind,as making the trip from Arizona in that truck. Actually,I would entertain the thought of riding shotgun up the ole wagon trail to help fight off bandits and renegades. See what happens
