Machine shop referral
I'm looking for a machine shop to get 2 blocks re-bored, tanked, etc. However, no luck locally finding a shop that has the jig to machine the fuel pump pushrod bore.
My brother in law owns a large freight company, so shipping is No Issue in most major cities in the upper 48 (free for me), and I'm not under time constraints. Just a name will do, however a phone number in addition to the name would be appreciated if available. One would think most machine shops would have the jig, but I've been un-able to find one in the Phoenix area. If you actually know one, it would be much appreciated. If you assume a shop does this, (as I assumed), I've been burning the phone lines long enough so I need a real lead not a hunch. Not expecting anyone to do my leg-work, just looking for someone who has had it done themselves and want to refer the machine shop where they had it done. Not machine shop certified, but I do know my way around engine maching, and I have never heard of it. What exactly do you need to do? If you just need to clean up the bore you could try a wheel cylinder flex hone. If it's a fairly common practice the dirt track racer shops should be able to point you in the right direction. Being your in Phoenix. By the way how's the weather (heat) out there? I am a two time resident. Hoping for a thrird someday.

Sorry, I didn't make myself clear. I have 2 blocks, 1pc rear seal vortec blocks, that are not machined for a fuel pump pushrod (for fuel injected vortecs). I'm looking for a shop that has the right fixture. Check out the link. I'm hoping someone else has been there, done that.
Monsoons are here and it's hot, humid, intermittent storms, you know the drill. I grew up near St. Joseph Mo. so I bet it's more humid where you are, maybe less temp but it almost evens out IMO. Hey airdale94-like what you did putting the 305 heads on the 283. I have a set, like new, that came off a low mileage warranty engine about 30 years ago and have never been used since.

I wondered if you had new gen blocks. Again might try the dirt track circuit. Yeah they don't flow as good as my 350 heads but definately boosted my compression ratio. Don't really need high end in a C20 anyway. An aftermarket Dart with 60cc chambers would be better, but I already had these.

I am assuming you don't want an electric fuel pump? I ran into a similar situation. Got a brand new motor for free from a buddy. I believe it is an '86 or '87 one piece rear main with no provisions for a mechanical pump. I ended up buying a set up from Summit for around $100 or so. If you have machine work to do anyway it might not be that big of a deal but by this thread it sounds like a PITA. Just my 2 cents. Hope you find a shop close by.
