12 Bolt Bearing Kit - Need Help!

Hey all,
I recently found out that my differential carrier in my 1972 C10 had succumbed to 42 years worth of wear and tear (and maybe even a few burnouts). It is a non-posi with presumably a 3.07 gear ratio. I had went onto Summit Racing and ordered my self an Auburn carrier and Richmond 4.10 gears. However, I decided to shop at my local Bumper to Bumper for a master bearing kit and they came back to me with 4 different kits to choose from that all varied in bearing size. I am wondering if anybody has any information about these and the part numbers on bearings and their whereabouts without tearing out all the guts!
Thanks in advance!

Get your parts from someone who knows what you have and knows what you need.

http://www.moserengineering.com/12-b...evy-truck.html

Call these guys and tell them what you have and what you want. Your truck is a 12 bolt GM truck rear end with 8.875 ring gear. There are no different bearing sizes for it.

Hope this helps.

That differential case is definitely shot. I recently ordered a set of diff bearings for my truck from an ebay seller for 60 bucks. Only one listing, and they fit fine.

That case is just fine, but I would agree that the carrier is shot. Call Moser, Mark Williams, Drive Train Specialists or Currie. They all know what parts work in an 8.875 Truck 12 bolt and the people you spoke to couldn't find their backside with a committee, a flashlight and a map much less get you the correct parts..

You need to deal with a different parts store. Too many chain stores hire someone off the street that was making slurpees at the convenience store down the road. yesterday. They slide them behind a computer screen, w/ minimal everything, much less working knowledge of a pickup or automobile.

There is only one bearing kit for a 12 bolt pickup, the car 12 bolt is different, because one pinion bearing and race is different.
4 choices...that's ridiculous....

The case is the part the ring gear is bolted to and contains the diff. A ford axle has a removable carrier a gm does not.
