LS swap high ac bracket

I attempted to use a set of diy4x competition mounts on my ls swap and ran into several fit issues. i ended up making my own that moved the motor back 7/8 of an inch so that the crank pulley would clear the cross member. now the problem i need to solve is the ac comp. has anyone used a high mount ac bracket, made their own, or have a template of one the purchased?

thanks!

Re: LS swap high ac bracket

I am in the middle of an LS swap myself and have read that the s10 bracket works or you can look into dirty dingo. I had to remove my compressor from the factory location to clear the cross member as well.

Never heard of the s10 brackets for this swap. Could you elaborate a bit more please?

Re: LS swap high ac bracket

Most people who swap a ls in a s10 use these http://www.kwikperf.com/lsx_ac.html

I found this link http://www.maliburacing.com/forum/vi...hp?=34&t=79059 . I thought it was a good low cost way of doing this.

Re: LS swap high ac bracket

mattcrp1, what are you putting the ls in? mine is going into a 84 crew cab. im not sure if that frame has differences then 1/2 and 3/4 ton trucks? its was a severe pain to get the motor to not hit the cross member or oil pan. lots of people have issues with header clearance, however my stock manifolds bolted right up, no issues.

i want to use the comp that is with the engine, the kwik perf is what i need i just dont want to spend the $200

I used the Kwik bracket with a Sanden compressor as well.

Re: LS swap high ac bracket

My swap is a 76 swb. Its a 4.8l 4l60e. I used Dirty Dingo mounts. I wasn't able to keep the factory ls a/c so I found that article while searching. I am still undecided on what I am going to do. My truck is a factory a/c model so what ever way I go wont be difficult to adapt.

Re: LS swap high ac bracket

My biggest issue with the after market solutions is the price. While I understand that the R/D is expensive, the brackets are only part of the cost. A sanden compressor can cost some good money while a sealed s10 system that was working should be ok to reuse. I like to reuse when I can and i do appreciate the effort that goes into the aftermarket brackets. I am ultimately "frugal", my wife says cheap but why worry about the details.
