Anything can be fixed. Do you have the tools, time and ability?
If you had to pay someone else it wouldn't be worth the effort.

Re: Is this cab worth saving? RUST
I went through this a while back. For me it was easy.... the cost of the patch panels alone were worth more than a complete rust-free replacement cab, so I just bought a new one. Can you repair or replace all of those panels cheaper than you can pick up another cab?

Re: Is this cab worth saving? RUST
There is usually a good cab at Carlisle Truck Nationals for $1500 without doors, so anything close to that would be fair depending on how far you have to go to pick it up. If you find one as "rust free" make sure you check it out completely. Look closely at the rockers and the lower A pillar, this is where rust can hide.

Re: Is this cab worth saving? RUST
I hate rust, so for me I would be thinking hard about this one. some things to think about like the value of the cab, is it important to you or have some substantial value to you? Is the cab special in some way that you want to keep the truck with as original as possible? Are you a good at working with metals? What are your plans for the truck? just questions like this can help you make a decision.

Re: Is this cab worth saving? RUST
Scrap. The entire roof from the window bottoms up is toast. Even the dash looks bad. The rockers may not look bad on the outside, but judging by the amount of water the inside of the cab has seen they can't look much better.

It would be foolish to repair that mess. Be patient maybe you can find a parts donor...

Re: Is this cab worth saving? RUST
Wow, that's bad. Kind of strange that the upper half is bad and bottom if good. Mine was the opposite. That's not going to be easy, or cheap repairs, but if you have the time and patience, it can be done

The first few pixs didn't look too bad and then they just got worse, I'd say it's toast..

Re: Is this cab worth saving? RUST
We see lots of rust up here in Canada, but I wouldn't touch that one. The deeper you dig the worse it will get.

Re: Is this cab worth saving? RUST
Even if you fixed all the rust, it would not be long before it rusted through in places you did not replace. I think you would be really frustrated spending time and $ only to have it rust through elsewhere. Thank you, Bruce

Re: Is this cab worth saving? RUST
The inner skin comes out after drilling a few hundred spot welds. It's not that big a deal.
I've seen guy fix worse. But GM made a lot of these trucks so a better cab shouldn't be hard to locate.

Re: Is this cab worth saving? RUST
I got a '72 C20 with a cab about that bad- rust through the rain gutter areas and the floor/rockers/corners. But the rest of it is solid- amazing but true. All I wanted was doors and fenders, I got a nice bed, a cool farm bumper and all the disc brake and power steering stuff for the '69 GMC C2500. I'll use the decent pieces I can glean from the cab for fabrication and reinforcement items. And I got a nice frame and Dana axle, too. Colorado has some decent-not-decrepit trucks, pretty easy to find, and raggedy ones aren't rare either.

Re: Is this cab worth saving? RUST
$800 for a "rust free" cab with new floors and rockers. Painted jams and dash and firewall. Looked pretty good but hard to tell in pics. I was really thinking about calling on it. Someone got a deal if it was done right. You would spend way more fixing that one you have.

Re: Is this cab worth saving? RUST
If you go to look at a replacement cab the most important thing is that the roof, window pinch welds, A-pillar from the lower hinge up and firewall are in rust free condition, rust anywhere else is expected and straight forward to deal with, obviously you want to find one with as little rust as possible in the usual areas.
