Heat riser or not?

In an earlier post I asked about the putting intake gaskets on with or without the heat restrictor. There was some reference to weather or not the manifolds had a heat riser or not.Now that I know what a heat riser is I have discovered that it has been removed or it never had one.So do I use the gasket with the heat restrictor or not? or do I need to find a heat riser and pipe?

Re: Heat riser or not?

The heat riser diverts the hot exhaust gases under the intake and out the other side to heat the plenum of the intake. Without the heat riser valve you can install the restrictor or leave it open. Likely won't matter either way. Just expect your motor to be a bit cold blooded for a bit at first start up in cooler weather.

Re: Heat riser or not?

^^ What he said. I took my heat riser out many years ago and never missed it at all. Even with it in place, the truck was a bit cold-blooded anyway. I couldn't tell any difference after I removed it.
