1971 ignition switch replacement ?
I've been searching for the last hour+ and can't find an answer.
I was taking out my ignition switch earlier today, but couldn't get it out? Right now I've got it to the point where the bezel just spins and spins, but it won't separate from the switch. Is there a trick to separating the two pieces? It seems like it should have spun off by now, but it hasn't happened yet. This is probably a simple thing and I'm probably just an idiot, but I do need help. Anyone have experience with this?

Re: 1971 ignition switch replacement ?
have you inserted an unbent paper clip into the itty bitty hole next to the keyhole and then inserted the key and twisted it counterclockwise?

Re: 1971 ignition switch replacement ?
2nd this. Turn the ignition to the accessory location insert a decent paper clip into the hole on the top right of the switch and then turn the switch further to the left (some jiggling may be required) you will feel another click as you did when turning the key to the accessory position. Then pull the key backwards removing just the lock cylinder. Everything should fall apart since you have unscrewed the housing.

One thing to remember is that '67's and some early '68's don't have an accessory position, so I usually just say to turn the ignition to the left as far as it will go. LockDoc

Re: 1971 ignition switch replacement ?
Thanks again guys.
I just did that and it took no time at all to remove the switch that way. I don't think I would have ever figured that out on my own. I didn't use a paper clip though. After seeing the size of that hole, I used a tool similar to an awl instead. Had a little more "beef" to push on it that way.
