Rear suspension not center
Not sure what I am missing here but took the rear suspension down from my 64 c10 stepside to replace trailing arms, shocks and crossmember, and springs. Put new bushing in pan bar, but now that everything is put back together it seems that the rear axle is not centered under frame. Trailing arms lined up with the axle perch and was just using original style parts. Can someone point me in direction of what I have missed or is this normal. It seems the left tire sits out from frame more than right. talking maybe a 1/2 when I take measurements. If this is not normal then how to I move axle back toward the right?

Is the truck sitting on its tires at ride height? Have you changed ride height? If only 1/2 inch out I would drive it a little and let the new suspension settle in. If it's still out you may need an adjustable panard bar.

I went with stock height for all parts replaced so should not have anything affecting the ride height that I can think of.
Have truck sitting with weight on tires and bed off of truck. Tomorrow was going to change front end springs, shocks, and ball joints, but was just stumped with this rear not being centered. As there appears to be no adjustment that can move frame left or right I could not figure how it could go back out of center. Adjustable pan bar I understand but should it not sit center as it was with stock pan bar? Thanks for time and help. I learn daily just looking through this chat. |

Bed weight will effect the centering of the differential.

Shack it back and forth and see if it lines back up. Have full weight on tires and stand up on back of frame and bounce it a few times. New bushings and such have to seat and settle good.

Did you measure everything before you took it apart? Was it centered then? My 63 is just as it was from the factory except for new shocks, it's not centered exactly

On Sunday I lowered my 1971 shortbed step side and also encountered this problem. I lowered it 5 inches ( 3" inch drop coils and 2 inch lowering blocks) and the driveshaft shifted to the right about 1/2". It drives fine I haven't checked the position of the driveshaft since. If it is still shifted I plan on buying a dbl adjustable pan hard bar to fix it.
