SoCal index racing
Yesterday I was lucky enough to sit down with a few racers and help hash out some rules and scheduling for a new index race at Barona Raceway in Lakeside CA. 5.50-6.00-6.50 classes in the 1/8th mile. Buy in is cheap and Payback is pretty darn good and should draw people from all over the south west once it starts rolling.
Is there any Socal drag truck guys that would be interested in coming out? I always want to see some chevy trucks in the mix. Check out the facebook page for rules and updates. Its a racers for the racers deal. Southern California Index Racing Association https://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/So...58234824296186 Last edited by Kyle@FTP; 12-29-2014 at 03:40 PM. |

What facebook page???
I have a friend who used to race Barona before he decided to 'improve' his Chevelle. Remember him saying he always had a great time there.

Re: SoCal index racing
Here is the proposed rules/structure/payout we have come up with
Feedback is greatly appreciated! 5.50 // 6.0 // 6.50 Heads-up Style Index Class (8-car minimum per field) -- No electronic bracket race aids - no throttle stops, delay boxes, or automatic style shifters -- Biondo mechanical style delay trans-brake button allowed and mechanical dead stop allowed. -- All 4-wheeled, door equipped vehicles with any engine, transmission, or power adder configuration allowed. -- Slicks, radials, street tires, tube chassis, back-halved, or stock cars allowed. -- Keep in mind, going faster than the index will NOT help. -- All classes are an all run field, and all classes are to run .4 pro-tree except 6.50 (we feel a .5 pro-tree will make for some closer reaction times, TBD by racers in class). Race Day Procedure (tentative, subject to change) 9:00am-12:00pm : open qualifying, make as many passes as time permits. Time slips must be turned into race director by 12:15pm, NO EXCEPTIONS. A closest to index ET will determine qualifying order, and reaction time will be used as tie breaker. Racers whom arrive late are welcome to race; if no slip is supplied, a last position qualifying position will be assigned. If more than one (1) racer shows up late, a chronological order will be assigned to late racers. Time slips must be turned in along with entry fee. Depending on race day, entry fee may vary. Race director will use racer supplied time slip to build a pro-ladder style elimination platform. Racer with better qualifying position will have lane choice. We expect racers to have lane choice determined BEFORE first round eliminations. Racers will line up in lanes according to lane position. There will be NO BUY BACKS. First round eliminations to be started as close to 1:00pm as possible, or as time permits. We will run 5.50 first and finish with 6.50 class. We are currently working out a schedule that would work with a dedicated race day at the track. Our goal is to schedule four (4) Sundays during the year of 2015. If this isn't possible, a smaller format may work out better alongside already scheduled races. Payouts Currently we are working on a guarantee of $200 per class, paid out as follows: $125 to winner, $75 to runner-up. 50% of pot to winner 25% of pot to runner-up 12.5 % to each racer eliminated in semi-finals On a $40 buy-in, the pot is broken down as follows: 8-car field $160 to winner $80 to runner-up $40 to each racer eliminated in semi-finals With guaranteed purse (8-car field), payout is as follows: $285 to winner $155 to runner-up 16-car field $320 to winner $160 to runner-up $80 to each racer eliminated in semi-finals With guaranteed purse (16-car field), payout is as follows: $445 to winner $235 to runner-up 32-car field $640 to winner $320 to runner-up $160 to each racer eliminated in semi-finals With guaranteed purse (32-car field), payout is as follows: $765 to winner $395 to runner-up We still need to talk to the track and get some numbers from them to determine whether or not we can run on our own day, or if we need to run on already scheduled race days. We may have to charge a $50 buy-in in order to give $10 per racer to the track. The buy-in amount and payouts will be open for discussion and will be based on further discussion with track officials. Please know that, as racers, we will never keep racer's money. However, we may need to allocate some of the payout money to pay a dedicated race director to make sure a quality and fair race environment is provided. |

Re: SoCal index racing
Did this ever happen? I know at least 10 regulars at borona and one 4.8 second guy. A majority of them run in the 6.5-7.0. Awesome little track. I've heard the shutdown is kinda scary.

Re: SoCal index racing
I cant run this due to location , but ill toss in how we do it . Rules are basically yhe same minus the auto shift . Every class on .400 . When you buy the tech card you tell them the class . Tech card is taken and list of drivers formed . Everyone pays $100 to get in . Payout goes 70/30 . 2 time trials . Draw #'s for who you race red # is right lane .

Re: SoCal index racing
Hollow65, March 22 is scheduled to be the first attempt at this. If the car count gets to the point we can add more classes then we will. But for now we are trying to keep it simple.

Re: SoCal index racing
This is something I would consider. Unfortunately it won't happen in 2015 for me though. Got too much other stuff going.

Re: SoCal index racing
Tell the bracket guys to come race the index class. It will be way more fun and probably have more prize money. Leaving head up and getting to the stripe closely grouped is a blast!

Re: SoCal index racing
Im kinda bummed. I hate posting things and not following through. We had a company sponsoring a bunch of money that pulled out last minute and the car count just wasnt there so instead of having a 2-4 car field we decided to pull back and start advertising. My buddy Matt was at Barona sunday passing out flyers and trying to set an official date with the track hoping that they will get on board as well. Since we called it off I ended up working on customer cars all day.
We will give this another shot and will continue to try and make it work. |

Re: SoCal index racing
We only run 5.80 and 7.0 down here . It takes a while to build a class .

Re: SoCal index racing
Thanks Hotrod80. going to 2 classes is something we are talking about now. Just need to figure out a dial in that will get most cars into a bracket. We have a lot of cars in the 6s so maybe a 5.80 and 6.50 or something to that effect.

Re: SoCal index racing
We usually have 40-50 cars in 5.80 (50 x 100 70/30 split )and a solid 10-15 in 7.0 100% of the $100 entry goes back to the drivers . We run one class after 275 X and the other after ultra street . They tried to move to 6.50 and really didnt give the 7.0 enough time to make the extra power . Set the classes and stick with it til you get a following .

Re: SoCal index racing
They changed from 7.0 to 6.50 and got no cars for the first 4 races . They should have changed it at the end of the season , but they changed it in January . First race was March ....No cars showed for 6.50 .... THey threw 7.0 back on , guess what we all showed and we were all fast as we were trying to get to 6.50 . Class still isn't back in full force . I think if not 7.0 6.60 would be a better or more interesting to watch class .
The class will either need to pay it's way or bring out spectators . If a class like 275 X will bring the people out and pay the gate then a fun to watch class the fills with quality cars can be part of the show . Hard to bring people out to watch bracket and index racing . Heads up pays the bills . anyway I digrees

I like the heads-up/grudge. Lots of animated people in the pits.
