Weird Electrical Issue
Hi Guys,
I am new to the forum, but last night I was working on my 71 c-10 doing routine maintenance (tightening exaust bolts) when I allowed my socket to touch the post on the starter. Since that point I now have no power to anything on the fuse block except the cigarette lighter. Has anyone out there had a similar experience? If so where did I let the smoke out? If not anybody got any ideas? Thanks, Rusty71chevy |

I don't know for sure on the old trucks, but on newer ones they have a fusible link that is attached to the starter and feeds power to the cab. It's usually attached to the big stud on the starter solenoid and I think they are red. (color denotes what amperage rating is) They look like about like a #8-10 AWG wire but they are actually a fuse. On my 86 Silverado it had more than one attached to the starter. If yours has one you can probably feel along it and find out where it's open and replace it or as I have done before (because I'm cheap) is solder it back together and put heat shrink over it. Good luck.
