72 4x4 rear frame pic
I am in need of a pic of a rear frame shot of a 72 4x4. Bed on, bed off, whatever is available. I am having to do some repair work (to replace someone else's repair work) to our 72 and would like to know what it looked like from the factory. About 12" of both sides of the rear frame have to be replaced. Im currently having a shop bend me two pieces of 3/16" steel to imitate the frame and then I'll go back and cut appropriate holes, and weld/attach to existing good frame. Any pics would be greatly appreciated.... especially since the "search" function is down.
Thanks in advance. |

Re: 72 4x4 rear frame pic
I have a '71 long bed 4x4, should be the same. Can get some pics posted later today. Bed is on, have rear mounted poly tank but shoud be able to show what you need. Will pic both left and right sides, inner and outer of frame channel. Need any measurements of hole placement and size or do you have that info?

Re: 72 4x4 rear frame pic
You guys are awesome. One side of the frame has all of the holes unmolested so I think I can transfer them ok. I just picked up the bent pieces and hope to make some more progress tomorrow. I am more concerned about what ends were welded on (by PO), and what if any braces were there originally that didn't get transferred type scenarios. Any photos will work, but don't kill yourselves getting them! it'll be later this week/weekend before I get to cut/weld anything on. Thanks guys.

Re: 72 4x4 rear frame pic
70', thanks for those pics... what is your setup? Maybe its because our truck was originally a half ton, but Im almost positive we have 12" of frame past the rear hanger. I will get some photos of what I have in the a.m.

Re: 72 4x4 rear frame pic
Seventy468, the frame in the pic is a 1/2 ton 4x4 SWB.
When it comes to these old trucks, anything is possible. I know there are plenty of LWB's that got cut down to make SWB's so I imagine what you are thinking may be possible has probably been done many times over. I hope that's not the case for though. |

Re: 72 4x4 rear frame pic
Here is what I am working with. Frame is upside in the photo. You can see right after the rear most crossmember where someone butted up another piece of frame, or steel and welded it on. We never had an issue with it as far as bumper not lining up or bed not bolted on, but after we got it blasted its become quite the eye soar.
Also attached is what I am working with to replace old stuff. Hopefully today I will be able to punch some holes in the new stuff and get close to being ready to go into surgery. |

Re: 72 4x4 rear frame pic
Looks like 70' put up some really good pics showing the rear frame channels. Show better than what I could do with the bed installed and a rear tank in the way. Hope the pics help your situation, good luck with it.

Re: 72 4x4 rear frame pic
Not exactly sure on how correct the bolt holes are for our actual year but this is how the looked from the spliced pieces.
