How to identify 1967 Chevy/GMC trucks
I have a need to educate myself on how to recognize 1967 trucks.
With the help of this sites search, I have compiled a simple list of items that seem to be exclusive to 1967. I was unable to find much on 1967 GMC trucks Is this due to similar parts, and only badges and such were different between Chevy/GMC? Thanks much...don t. ... EXTERIOR: fenders and bedsides without side markers small back window LWB Fleetside wheel openings are the same as a SWB GMC grille and emblems 67 door handles are a 1 year only fit ... To expound on Tinker's post I think it's exterior door handles on 67 67-68 GMC gates had smaller stamping template. In '67 two-tone the top color stops at the drip rail. In '67 the wheels were painted black and hubcaps were white 67-68 windshield and rear window trim is skinner than newer years I believe the rear tail light trim option in 67 was the eye brow only where as years after were the whole light trim and only top bar for tail gate trim where as following years had the bottom trim as well... **REPLY: That's how both '67 & '68 were. It came with the side trim. 67 hood does have a small difference from 68.(lip at the rear of the hood) INTERIOR: base model packages have no inner door arm rests only driver side mirror and sunvisor one year only rearview mirror arm and knobs on dash .. ridges on the knobs like a quarter. inner door handles and window cranks are skinnier .. ridged knobs, inside door handles, crank handles Vent window is also different on the 67 ... Different wing window handles .. screws at base of wing window frames ... No hole for the knob on vent windows on a 67. Vent handles were used on 64-67 .... wing vents had different latches the didn't require a hole in the glass. Different instrument cluster bezel, ignition switch bezel, ash tray, wiper switch, cigarette lighter, horn button Wrinkle glove box door .. glovebox door texture same as gauge cluster bezel interior paint could be different from exterior paint ... interior paint color went with interior trim color... ... Seat back flips forward ... fold forward seat .. Buddy buckets on 67 fold forward, 68's don't. ... buddy buckets were standard on CST/Super Customs ... buddy buckets had flat wide pleats ... 67-68 emergency brake was hand pull I think the 67 auto column shift indicator was more round than the other years at the back of it. Wasn't there a year the column indicator housing was metal? Radio delete trucks had radio delete cowl panels and I think no antenna hole in firewall 67-70 throttle rod Early 67 seat belts had the airplane style buckles ...and the mounting bolts used different bolts/different thread ... the kick vent is the same shape but the handle arm is higher on a 67 than a 68-72. the arm is mounted higher in 67 so you cant see it. In 68 it was lowered so the stamp out is also lower in 68. You cant interchange them without drilling new holes in the cab kick panel. 67 visor hooks MECHNICAL: 67 v8 alt brackets.(not sure if these are carryovers) 67 frame rail being wider in the engine area. Front frame horns are wider No frame dimple for steering box IF it came with PS it was a ram assist style setup Front parking lights turn off when headlights are turned on Firewall on 67-8 different around the brake and column area 1967 was only year 283 available 1967 had no big block option 67-8 core supports have a splash pan on the bottom of them. 67-8 fuse Blocks are orientated 90 degrees as opposed to other years. 67-68 had steel air boxes on firewall for heat and 69-72 were plastic also the foot print was different. THE END. |

This looks like a good list. I will comment on the ones that I think I know about. Others will know more.

Re: How to identify 1967 Chevy/GMC trucks
Chevy vs GMC had quite a few differences in '67. It was by the end of this era they became the same, but for grille and logos. There were also '67 GMC-only items
GMC didn't offer a V8, still, till late in '67 V6 Dana44 and 60 1/2t rears Dana 60 in 3/4t 4wds Although listed as an option on both, GMCs seemed to come through with leaf spring vs Chevy coil Horizontal pattern vs vertical on vinyl door panels 67 GMC had no divets for headlight adjustment in headlight doors 67 front bumpers had no cut-out for turn signals

Re: How to identify 1967 Chevy/GMC trucks
a couple of these im not quite sure about. the frame rails in the front really. i never heard this one before. i know big blocks werent avail in 67 on the half tons and if you put a bb in a 67 you actually have to trim the frame to clear the exhaust manifolds.
also the wiring harness is different where it plugs into the firewall. 67-68 the 67 exterior door handles and the other years are all the same except for the way it mounts. the angle of the mounting screw changes in 68 on up. you can mount another door handle but you have to bend the mounting tab in the door and change the relay also the 67 ext, door handles have different oem part #s

Re: How to identify 1967 Chevy/GMC trucks
not sure on roof paint? as you see the A pillar is painted white....the door tops aren't because they're 68....you can see the silver and black glove box door, choke block off plate, and I'm told some things different with the cigarette lighter?

two-tone stops at drip rail? As in, the top of the door is still lower body color? window trim is skinnier? As in, on CST models? the Stainless trim or something else? 67 lip at rear of hood? really? I have never notices this. no antenna hole in cowl? So this is a 67 only thing, cowls with no antenna hole? So, what did a 68 with radio delete have for a cowl? Wow, I am amazed at the list, I have 4 of my 5 trucks (all parts truck quality) are 67's and I never knew all this stuff. Great post/thread.

Re: How to identify 1967 Chevy/GMC trucks
[QUOTE=67 cst swb;7034105]I would like more info on the above items.
two-tone stops at drip rail? As in, the top of the door is still lower body color? 67 the door and A pillar is body color so the roof is ivory/white to the drip rail. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=564442 There are many pictures and people that say contrary but I throw my lot in with SSTim and his info in that thread. no antenna hole in cowl? So this is a 67 only thing, cowls with no antenna hole? So, what did a 68 with radio delete have for a cowl? I don't know about 68 but my radio delete 67 has no antenna hole in the cowl

Re: How to identify 1967 Chevy/GMC trucks
I'ma have to disagree with the roof paint stopping at the drip rail...also with the deleted antenna hole at the bottom of the painted A pillar...unless it's different on Canadian trucks?

Don't know about a lip at the rear of the hood or window trim. But, '67 tailgates are stamped a bit different. No antennae hole an any 67-72 truck w/o radio option. all 67-72s with radio obviously have an antennae. ******************************************************* In '67 the right mirror is an option In '67, base trim has no passenger visor In '67, no outer grille trim on any trim level Ram assist carried over into '68

Re: How to identify 1967 Chevy/GMC trucks
Thank you for your comments and input. I do appreciate it.
Special-K and LockDoc...Thank you for the GMC info. I knew I'd seen the pattson link a long time back, but dang if I could find them. Keith...."67-68 GMC gates had smaller stamping template.".... While it was not explicitly stated, I think this is related to step side tail gates. Im hoping to know more as well. 67 cst swb......Sorry, I do not really know. I searched this site for 1967 Chevy and 1967 GMC. I waded through the links. Anything semi related to learning more was put on the list. After more threads than I care to count, I eliminated the duplicates, put it into the 3 categories. Again, Im hoping to know more as well. Thanks again, have fun.....don t. .... |

Thanks special-k
I have 3 cowls with factory no antenna hole. If that was a 67 only thing, I was going to be amazed that I had 3 of them.

Re: How to identify 1967 Chevy/GMC trucks
There was only one '67 GMC glovebox door badge design. I don't have a picture on my computer. If no one else comes up with a picture by tomorrow, I can take a picture
I could be wrong, but I always thought '67 top color stopped at the drip rail. Some early '68s, too. Maybe it varies? I don't have any pictures, so I did a search: https://www.google.com/search?q=orig...ih=411&dpr=1.5
