Why does my hood pop up by the cowl?
Why does my hood pop up by the cowl? Is it adjustment, bad hinges, bad hinge springs, government conspiracy to look at my emissions stuff, or just what happens when we get old?

Its time for new/better hood hinges.
I think when you get old, less things pop up.

Pay attention to what Molberg said! Check that link.
I saw the original posted response from Huck, tried it, and voila!

Re: Why does my hood pop up by the cowl?
I had the same issue. I used to push down on the back of the hood to get it back down. Before too long one of the rivets broke and I needed new hinges.

Thanks for the link.
I sure miss the search feature. Sometimes the google search returns too much.

Re: Why does my hood pop up by the cowl?
Adjust bracket where it bolts to fender. I slid hinge up 1/8" at front bolt and that little bit of pivot in hinge made hood flush with cowl.
My hood was doing same thing. So I removed the hinges and they were sloppy at pivot points. Bought some used tight hinges from a member, installed them and hood was higher then cowl again. Oh! xxxxx. But after adjusting they work great. Hope that helps.

Re: Why does my hood pop up by the cowl?
I had this to happen to my hood when I re-installed the hood. When you closed it the back of the hood on the driver side would pop up in the back. You had to push it down and it then would be okay. A guy I knew that has worked in a body shop for years was over one day and I showed this to him. He said it was just out of adjustment and he proceeded to adjust the hinges and the hood closed perfect. It just needed a very small adjustment to make it work. I had tried to adjust the hinges several times with the help of my son-in-law and we just didn't get it right.

Re: Why does my hood pop up by the cowl?
The hood hinges are likely fine. I've been through this before. Just clean the pivot points well then lubricate well. The hood will sit back down after.

Re: Why does my hood pop up by the cowl?
Thanks Guys....it was just what I needed. The hood now closes properly and sits properly as well.
I'll bet from the reduced wind signature I'll get over 20 MPG...Maybe not but it looks so much better.
