Who else is driving their truck in the cold?
Swept the snow of the old '69 long stepper today. 3.2 degrees (f) with minus 15 wind chill. Pulled the choke a third, pumped the gas pedal 5 times, and it started right up. 10 minutes later I was humming off to the store for food & fuel before the coming snow storm. Point ignition and all. Got to love it when old school is working as it should.

I feel for you guys under deep snow. But it looks like our trucks do well in it. In Jan 1986 it snowed here... I woke up to see my bronze truck with the hood all white. My first thought was someone vandalized my truck. I later realized it was snow. It was the first time I had driven my truck when it was that cold. The snow didn't stick and the heater warmed me up quickly.

Re: Who else is driving their truck in the cold?
I've been driving mine all winter in Spokane, 72 K10 longbed, it is an outside truck. I have a Quick Fuel with an electric choke, I got a new exhaust installed and had the heat riser valve installed. She does ok! Has been converted to a 396 so it is very difficult to find a heat stove or else I would already have a thermostatic air cleaner on her too.

Re: Who else is driving their truck in the cold?
Too much work this year to keep her on the road. Just digging out the other tail pipe would take a whole day.

Re: Who else is driving their truck in the cold?
Pulled mine out after doing some upgrades last week and went for a short drive. She is now tucked back inside until April.

Re: Who else is driving their truck in the cold?
Yes indeed! Often wish Pontiac did make a truck.
- - And I knew you southerners would show up and brag about your weather. Let's see how you feel in August. At least I don't have to plug in a battery blanket and block heater like when I lived by the arctic circle. Though may have to here soon if global warming keeps creating all these polar vortexes

Re: Who else is driving their truck in the cold?
Although, the GTO did get stuck out in the snow when doing some upgrades to the garage a few years back. Never plan around the weather man.

Re: Who else is driving their truck in the cold?
Single digits out here in Pennsylvania. Started it up today, pumped the hell out of the gas pedal, fires up every time. I don't want to drive it with snow/ice on the roads though, too risky. Waiting until the roads are clear at least.

Re: Who else is driving their truck in the cold?
Yea I drive in the cold, not much snow here in tn are having a small ice storm right now won't drive my old stuff right now with the salt on the road. It snows here and people think they can't do anything without 4wd so I leave mine at home and drive my new truck (97) and people ask were your big truck at I say I don't need it and the 2wd does better donuts

Re: Who else is driving their truck in the cold?
Mines my daily driver. They were built to drive year round. My '70 in high school was my only transportation because my '69 Nova didn't get around well.
We're going straight over there If I remember correctly it was -32 and -58 with the wind chill this morning. I thought I had the screen shot of the temp on photo bucket but it must be on my phone Why my Nova didn't get around well tunnel ram, 350, manual valve body th350, 4:10 posi. One pump start though LOL |

Re: Who else is driving their truck in the cold?
Not to hijack the thread. But since we are on the subject of snow salt and ice. I once met a guy who had a mid 90s Tacoma. Maybe earlier. He lived in south nj. And there was not a speck of rust to be seen. Being A combo of south New Jersey salt air and a Toyota I had to ask him how. He said once a year he sprays the entire undercarriage with WD-40.
Does anyone have any thought on this. Would it attract dirt? Just a thought as I cringe when I look at the roads in my area. They are white with salt residue. |
