Seat upholstery problem. Need advice.
Long story short. Ordered a 68 seat cover from brothers.
Seat back - The old seat cover measured 26" on the face panel. The new one measures 22. It does not give me enough to wrap at bottom and be able to crimp it. Has anyone run into the same. I'm certain it's the orig seat. And has never been recovered before. Build sheet was on seat back. |

Re: Seat upholstery problem. Need advice.
Is there anyone that could possibly check what their measurement is?
It's the length from top front seam. (Should be two across seat top one at top rear. And one at top front). It's from the top seam front one to the bottom. Even an approximate would help. I've been fighting this seat back for a long time. If it had two more inches I could get it to barely make it. It should wrap around bottom 1" bar then clip onto a rod just above it. Thank you. |

Re: Seat upholstery problem. Need advice.
I just wrapped up my seat today. Not from Brothers though, so measurements won't be of much help. I just know you have to beat them into submission to stretch the fabric where it needs to go. I even used a heat gun to warm up the material to make it more "strechy".
Good luck! |

I believe it was a pui brand seat. Sounds like possibly the same issue.
What color did you install? Beautiful quality. Just don't get why so short. Glad u got urs installed Next time l will have an upholsterer do the whole job I guess. Pic is of where the edge comes to when on the seat. Needs to wrap all the way around the bar. |

Re: Seat upholstery problem. Need advice.
I would think a rod should run through the listing tape to give the hog rings something to hook to.
1.Warm the cover, heat gun, steam, hair dryer. Flip the listing tape (dark grey) over the bar. Pull it around and ring it. Use a helper to push the material toward you, you can use the hog ring plyers loaded with a ring to pull. Start in the center and work your way out. 2. If 1. still doesn't work, you can stitch on a deeper pocket listing tape. you can fold over a strip of vinyl throw in mamas sewing machine and rip down right across the top of the listing seam. And repeat 1. 3. Take it down to your local upholstery shop and ask for help/advise. Unless they are assholes they would be happy to help. Good luck!

Re: Seat upholstery problem. Need advice.
I spoke to pui today and they informed me they did not make the seat over. I will have to contact brothers again to find out. However pui told me in 1968 there were two styles of seat. One used hog rings and the other used a metal clip. I think this is where I am having a problem. My seat used a series of clips to hold the upholstery in position. Now I have to find out if the other style is even available. Nothing seems to go smoothly lately. I'll post up the clip style for others reference.

Does anyone have any recommendation as to where I may get the proper cover.

Re: Seat upholstery problem. Need advice.
I ordered my seat cover for my 68 last summer from truckseats. My seat used the clips as shown. After a mistake on my special order (not truckseats fault) it was straightened out and looks fantastic! Ordered my foam from gmc pauls and it's first class foam. To get the back fastened and seat fastened i sat on them and clipped them. I must be heavy enough because it turned out just right. My special order cover was for a 68 cover (67-68 only fold forward, 69 and up doesn't fold forward) and had 71-72 blue hounds tooth with the horse shoe pattern. Well worth the wait!
