Short or long water pump?

I did some searching trying to determine the difference between the two. I saw the measurements, but I'm not near the truck at te moment and I'm trying to order an AC kit. I am pretty sure that it is a short pump. I have a picture of the pump on my phone and one thing I noticed online is that it appears the pad on top with the plug is different from long to short. Is that a solid determining factor? Here is the picture I am referring to.

Re: Short or long water pump?

That's a short one. Basically if you can get your finger between the pump and the timing chain cover it's a long pump.

Re: Short or long water pump?

That looks like a shorty to me too. If your truck is somewhat stock that's what it should have anyway. The long water pumps started showing up in the trucks in 1973+

Dan I think that needs to go in the faqs if it isn't already. This comes up every so often. Great comparison.

Agreed. The nipple on what would be the top of the water pump in the top photo was difference I was referring to. Not sure if that is a reliable determination.

You're probably right. Not sure how I go about doing that. Any idea?
