67-72 doors

hello guys, im working on my cab right now and im at the door. As I was taking them apart to re-pair the rot, I looked back over them and realized there was alot of rot all the way around, to the point where I feel its not worth the time to repair them. Should I buy new shells from lmc, or try to find a good pair that might need some repair(im having a hard time on it). Would anybody in the New England area have a pair for sale that I can buy? Also whats the difference between 67-71 door panels and doors. I noticed the door panel trims are different, are they also different sizes? Any recomendations would be a great help! Thank you in advance!

Re: 67-72 doors

The physical shape of the 67-72 doors are the same. They will interchange, just the looks of the interior, the window cranks, door handles, and inside panels will differ.
Im in the same boat with mine, the doors I have are from a 71, but they will fit my 67. At $400 a door for new, im gonna fix mine with patch panels. Im always on the lookout for a set of doors, even if I have to get a rotten set and fix them.

Thank you! So I can't use 72 panels on my 69 because of placement of window and door handle?

Re: 67-72 doors

Not 100% sure about that. They SHOULD fit as the window regulators are the same for 67-71. 72 is diiferent so I dont know if crank is in same location, or door handle either for that matter.
LMC has different part numbers for 72 on door latch and window regulators

You could use them if you change out the Regulators and Door Latch Controls for the longer-shafted '72 versions.
May be cheaper just to use '69 door panels.

They "can" be used but it normally requires a few modifications. The shafts on the window regulator and the door regulator are longer on the 72. So, you can either replace these, or try to force the panel down over them (it can be done). The next issue is the bottom of the panel. Up through 71 they screwed to the bottom of the door and you would have clip nuts in the door for the screws. The 72 uses those plastic push in clips. You also can make these work by drilling holes in the correct place to accommodate for them. Do a search and you should find some threads on this.

On the doors themselves, the 72 had a screw up by the vent window on the inside that the other years did not have. But they can interchange.

You can buy new door skins for around $100.00 a side.

Re: 67-72 doors

The 72 inside door relay and window crank on the regulator are longer as to accept the thicker panels that were used in 72. If you switch to 72 panels you will need the 72 window regulators and relays

Re: 67-72 doors

Thank you guys, I think I'll stick with 69 panels as of now, and look for a set of 72 doors. I appreciate all the input!

Re: 67-72 doors

It is worth replacing all the bottom sheet metal on a door rather than tossing for new. If it's not worth it to you, please let someone else have them. and even if you decide to buy new, LMC does not come automatically attached to that. They are biggest, not best
