Re: Help ID front axle

How do you know axle is replacement drop axle?

Part number is for real axle, stock for 1955 truck. Casting number is part number. Original cost $31.75.

Re: Help ID front axle

FYI, GM part numbers do not contain "GMXX." The part number as shown above in the GM parts books is 3712013. It is possible that someone had a factory axle reshaped for the drop. We did that with a vintage racecar years ago.

There are a couple of guys here that have worked for GM and might shed some light on the "GM27" portion of the code. I think one has a 70's truck and might be found in one of the newer model forums. I'd love to know what that indicates.

Re: Help ID front axle

The axle we had done is still in use under the vintage racer 20 years later. It survived a pretty good front end hit along the way.
