Re: 1963 c10 heater questions
Looks like I'm missing the box that holds the core itself?

Re: 1963 c10 heater questions
The heater core goes under the hood on the firewall, passenger side. There should be a larger box it goes inside of. Search on this forum for pictures. You didn't say what type of heater: Thrift Air, Deluxe, etc. as there are differences. Hope this helps.

Re: 1963 c10 heater questions
this one has the fan motor inside so its a recirculation heater...sure looks like the core mounts inside as there are 2 holes to allow the hoses to attach to the core..

here ya go. You can see where the heater core goes just by the position of the hose's in the box.

Re: 1963 c10 heater questions
Your missing the plenum on you heater that retains the heater core. CdM picture above is incorrect for your application, he is showing a deluxe heater as you have the recirculating type like Slow Build picture.
Only one pictures in the shop manual for recirculating type heater in section 13 of the American version following the Air Conditioning section. The heater cores differ as well. Yours does not have the flow control valve as the engine compartment firewall mounted model.

Re: 1963 c10 heater questions
I'm with "Slow Build" on this one. Looks like your heater core is housed inside the cab on the passenger side. Same set up in my '60.

Re: 1963 c10 heater questions
I had mine apart last summer. There is a "cradle" with two straps that holds the core within the heater housing. It is slightly larger than the core, is open on all sides to allow airflow through it, and mounts to the firewall side of the housing (which allows the core pipes to stick through the firewall.
Greg.

Re: 1963 c10 heater questions
I just bought a recirculating heater core from LMC and its no where near the same, the parts where the straps are supposed to go around are much too small. Did yours fit properly?

Here are some shots I took of my heater unit before refurbishing it. Different angles on how the core fits into the unit. Hope they help -- Cheers!
