I know the early crew cabs are rare and don't come up for sale often. I was interested in trying to find one. Doesn't need to be a 4x4. Were these trucks built by an outside contractor?

Welcome to the board.

There is some info on here about them but it is kind of spread out. I think your best bet would be to type the word "crew cab" into the Google box up above, click on the circle in front of "67-72chevytrucks.com" and click on the "Google" button. Make sure what you are reading pertains to the years you looking for because the hits will include all years (unless you put a year in front of "crew cab".

No factory production crew cabs. All 67-72 crew cabs were either done by outside body companies, or done by an individual.

Railroads and forest service were probably the biggest purchasers of crew cabs. Generally, those will have a full front door as the back door, like they took the back of one cab off, the front off another and welded them together. I think they are rather ugly, but probably the closest to 'factory' crews.

I like the ones that are made from Suburbans, as long as the fabricator changes out the tall 'burb roof and rounds the rear door. Those look like what I imagine the factory would have done if they had done a crew. This thread shows someone's build that has what I'm talking about.
