1986 v6 4x4

Hey guys I am looking at a 86 4x4 with a dead v6.
What is needed for the swap to a v8?
Are the motor/frame mounts the same?
I would assume it is a 4.3 so the accessories are probably the
same(water pump,pulleys,power steering,ac stuff?)

Mounts are the same. You just need to move them on the frame. I cant remember if they slide forward or back.

^^ yes the mounts are the same and it is really easy to convert.

I just did the conversion from V6 to V8 on an 85 4x4. The motor mount towers are different on the V6. You need the V8 towers that bolt to the 4x4 engine cross member.

So the engine side of the mount is the same but not the frame side?

Is the 700r4 v6 trans the same internally as the v8 ?

I can't remember on the clam shells from the engine. I pulled the V6 out of the truck and sent it for scrap metal. I then compared the towers on this truck to a V8 truck and they were different, but the cross member was the same. I removed the V6 towers from the truck and installed the V8 towers with the V8 rubber motor mounts still attached to the towers as they were nice and tight. I used the Clam shells that came with the V8 replacement engine. It bolted up perfect and bolted up to the 700R4 and torque converter that was already in the truck. This truck runs and drives great! Of course after erasing all of the smog equipment and problematic feedback carburetor, distributor, and stock smog wiring.

The 4.3 is a v8 they cut two cylinders off it.The s10s i have done the same kinda swap on everything bolted over and right in no problem should be the same for your truck.

They actually made v6 four wheel drives?

Not real sure on that but wouldn't shock me,I know they did in the next body style the 88-98 trucks.

Both Chevy and ford produced 4x4's with V6 engines, while dodge did not, at least not in a full size truck. Having owned a full size dodge with a V6 in it.....there was good reason for that....the 3.9 sucked and did not have enough power for a full size truck......but I digress...
I had a friend back in high school and his dad owned a few different Chevy 4x's with V6's in them....he never complained about the smaller engine and back in those days no one complained about gas mileage, but I can't imagine it was real good.

im also thinking you will need a v8 fan shroud and the proper hoses I do believe you can still use the radiator but it is a simple swap ive done this before

That im not sure on and not sure if the torque converter is the same or different.
